Can you drink to much?

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve on 3/6 on Monday, I stayed two nights in the hospital due to nausea. And the fact I barely was getting any fluids in. Since I've been home I've been drinking a lot better. Yesterday managed nearly 40oz crystal light (it's very diluted but I've always found this easier to drink than plain Water except at the gym) and 1 Premier Protein 11oz drink. Took a while to drink. Today I've drank 2 premier Protein Drinks and like 50oz crystal light.

Before surgery I was a CL drinker, over 100oz in a day. I know fluids go right through so I'm not worried about stretching or anything. But am I drinking to much to soon? I'm not really crazy wanting to drink, but I've seen so many people get dehydrated, I'm trying to avoid that. If I wanted right now, the way I feel I could probably go the whole day with nothing, but I know that's not good either. I'm taking small sips.

Nope you are doing awesome.

Having the sleeve is kind of like having strep throat. If you keep things going through it, it stops it from being so inflamed. So you can keep eating/drinking. It is really important in the beginning because it helps keep the swelling down.

Keep doing what you are doing, you are rocking it.

Also fluids go right through your sleeve. I had a live swallow test, and the valve at the bottom of your stomach works like sand going through and hourglass. As soon as you take a sip, it opens and things slide though. So as you are just sipping, it is passing right through. Now later when you can gulp, you have to be careful you don't drink too much at once. All it takes is one time and you will learn your lesson

awesome! Thank you! Yeah I did take to big of a sip one Time and I definitely felt it.

When I go back for my recheck I plan to ask my doc to show me the swallow test. I hope he can access it because I really want to see what the stomach looks like.

I had revised from the band so I was worried I'd have a tougher time post op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
