Hello, how soon did y'all get a date for surgery? Did you guys get a chance to pick the surgery date or do they give you one?

I have important dates during my estimate surgery date.

Thank you.

They called and asked if a certain date was good. For me it was, but if not they had further out dates. Some insurances once approved will allow the approval to be good for a period of time. My insurance approval was good for a year, so im sure youll be able to get a date that works for you.

I told the nurse after my surgery consult that only the 2nd week of May will work for me. She walked over to the schedule and made a note. She told me requests arent a problem but the paperwork can cause a delay if it didnt get submitted in time. We all have a life so I figure whats wrong with giving them a good time for me based on my schedule. Nothing wrong with that. I have heard where they would call if there was an opening to ask if you would like an earlier date. I guess it justs depends if your office is open to requests.

After turning everything in took about a week. My doctor only did surgery on Mondays and Tuesdays. They usually give you a quick date after your approve.

I got to choose my date. They had openings within 2 weeks - 4 weeks. I wanted to be the first surgery of the day (because of my anxiety) so they told me which date they had where I could be first and I decided to go ahead and take it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
