Type 2 Diabetic and Lactose Intolerant

Recommended Posts

So as a type 2 diabetic and lactose intolerant on top of it, what is good for me to use for the high Protein all liquid diet before surgery?

I'm sure there are others, but I know that Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacements are lactose free and have less than a gram of sugar per serving.

That is a hard one fir sure. I found GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. It has literally saved my life. I was on a 2 weeks of Protein Drinks before my RNY and then 4 weeks of protein drinks after my WLS. I am here to tell you, I had "THE BACK DOOR TROTS" the whole time I was drinking PREMUIR Protein drinks. I mean I coudn't hardly get out of the house. After all of that time my Surgeon told me that I was Lactose Intolerant. THANK YOU MISTER!! Now when I say that I couldn;t go out I mean I COULD NOT GO OUT without wearing a pad!! So I am now 3 and 1/2 years out and when I found GENEPRO I was so EXCITED!!! It is unflavored and I add it to my coffee every day. You can add it to anything. Just temper it in some warm Water and then put it in the stuff and you can enjoy your drinks without any difference. It is a little more expensive but it is so worth it. I hope this helps you, I just wish I would have had it all along. BTWS it has 30grams of protein in 1 Tablespoon. Now there will be some that say it isn't 30 grams but I have used it with all of my labs coming out great!!

So glad to read other people using genepro. I use it every day and I am almost 1 month post op and still on purée diet. I add it to my coffee, tea, cream of wheat and soups.. by far the best I have had since I can't stomach protein drinks anymore..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
