I have been changing my mind a lot about the surgery but last night I read a thread on a Facebook group. The person asked if people were happy with their surgery. The responses (hundreds of them) were overwhelmingly YES. Even some who had complications said they'd do it again. That did it for me. I'm doing this and now that I've made the decision I can hardly wait! I know I'll be nervous but my decision is made and that in itself is a relief.

Everyone I have talked to said they would do it again and it was the best decision they ever made.

I think we are worth it.

I am tired of being so big.

I am tired of not being able to fly because I can't fit in the seat.

I am tired of always wondering if a seat can support my massive frame.

I am tired of always feeling miserable.

I have to make a change and WLS is the tool that I need.

We are worth it. I too am tired of similar things. Sitting in a booth and hoping I'm not jammed in. Carefully choosing clothes to hide myself. Never wearing shorts. Being petrified of heart disease. It really goes on and on. We gotta do it.

I'm definitely less scared and more excited now. Talk to me the night before surgery tho [emoji50]
Let me know when your wife has it if you would. I'd love to hear about her journey.

I understand, I feel the same way.
I will keep you posted on my wife's journey as well.
I have encouraged her to create a profile here as well.
She is full steam ahead and not scared at all.
She is a critical care nurse, so maybe that is why she isn't scared?
I am scared, but I have to do something.
My quality of life is pretty low right now.

Knowing she's a nurse and not scared actually makes me feel comforted!

I'm so sorry you're feeling down. If this works out we will have a much different outlook in short order. Hopefully seeing how your wife does it'll help with the fear.

Yeah, I agree.
She has had her gall bladder removed, appendix removed, Hiatal Hernia repair, and two c sections. So basically, surgery is no big deal to her.
I on the other hand am scared.
My surgery won't be until August, so I have plenty of time to get mentally prepared.

I had many complications after surgery and I would definitely do it again in a heartbeat.

This surgery has changed my life for the better in so many ways!

Good luck on your journey!

Congratulations on making this life changing decision. I too would do it again in a heartbeat. I always recommend that anyone considering wls educate themselves thoroughly and be sure to see a nutritionist that is familiar with wls. ARM yourself with knowledge. Read books, read statistics, read as many personal experiences as you can. That includes the good and the bad. And do your best to find a good surgeon preferably with a program that helps you to succeed. The more you know, the better you will feel and the more successful you will be. 11 months out now and the game is changing. Weight loss is slowing and it is a mind game. WLS is NOT a fix, but it is a great tool. I could not have lost what I did without it, but I do have to work for it and will always have to work for it. Much success to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
