Face after surgery

Recommended Posts

This may be an odd question but my sister keeps telling me that I might look "old" after I have surgery and lose weight quickly.

So what happens to your face after surgery? Do your wrinkles show up more? Saggy cheeks? I have no idea? So are there any facial creams or lotions to help with any of this?

I was worried about that too!! But most peeps says I look younger. I did do firming laser every 3 months on face and neck which may have helped. Also facial exercises can be good too. As for creams Nivea q10 are good ones and affordable there is a serum and facial cream.

Depends on how old you are I think. I'm almost 55 and I think I look older, but everyone else says I look younger.

My neck skin is a little saggy and wrinkly (but my double chin is gone!) and the smile lines around my mouth are deeper. But then again I'm looking in a 10x mirror in the morning which is guaranteed to show all flaws! LOL!

Thanks for the responses. I'm not sure what my sister is talking about because I think everyone looks younger in their after pictures.
Thanks blondie66 I'm going to check out those creams.
Do you have a web site for facial exercises? I've only seen one for a double chin.

It really depends on how old you are when you have the surgery. I had the surgery right before I turned 50. Up to that point I looked younger than I was because the fat filled in my face so well. Now with all of that padding gone, I'm being offered the senior citizen discount everywhere I go. It's nice getting the discount, but a little depressing to look old enough to get it ahead of time.

I just turned 35 yesterday so it is a real worry for me. I am looking for creams or oils that may have worked for others on the process of losing weight. Up until this point I really have not worried about it because the fat fills in my face. I just don't want to end up looking older than I am.
CharlotteKat I'm sure you look great and healthy, and healthy is the more important factor in all of this. I need to remind myself of that.

Same here Charlotte! I'm 49 and had surgery a little over a month ago. 27 pounds down and I swear it's all come from my face and neck:-) I don't remember these wrinkles the last time I successfully dieted about 6 years ago. Anyway, I've read that the rapid weight loss doesn't give your skin a chance to heal at our age. Wish I would have done this in my 20s. In time, with good hydration and a good moisturizer it should get better. I may find some laser treatments along the way. What type of treatment do you get?

I think a lot depends on how much weight you carried in your face/neck. I am 34 and looked late 20's before surgery, but I had a very fat face and neck. I've lost 117 lbs in 7 months and now I've got sagging skin on my face and under my chin, making me look older. What surprised me is that I guess I had a lot of fat between my eyelids and eyebrows, because that skin now hangs loosely over my eyelids, making me look like an older woman. It is weird for me to see myself looking much more aged now in photos and in the mirror. I look 10-15 years older now than I did before surgery, but I would still rather look older at 273 lbs than be in the 400's again.

I have not had surgery yet. Lately I've been concerned because I have a huge double chin. It will not stop me from getting surgery, but i won't k ow what to do to fix it. I'd rather be healthier anyhow.

I am 61 and I know I look a bit younger but what most people say is I look healthier which is why I had surgery. I did notice during the rapid weight loss I had a "turkey neck" but I think it has improved over time. I'm interested in the laser procedure someone else mentioned.

Think about a eye lift. Insurance should cover it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
