Anyone with PCOS have any reverse symptoms/ improved symptoms after VSG?

Recommended Posts

I have pcos and I've read a lot of people saying oh getting vsg cured me of pcos or helped my symptoms etc. I want to know if anyone has any experiences and what happened, I'm hoping for some positive things to come from this surgery (in regards to my pcos)

I had be lapband which worked a little but not really and upon visiting my gyno for a visit plus internal sono, the little but I did lose got rid of any sign of PCOS on my ovaries. I still struggle with other symptoms and am going for a sleeve revision on 5/31 so fingers crossed for more results!

I am/was a pretty text book case of PCOS and had a hysterectomy and one ovary removed at 34. I also had severe endometriosis, an extreme case of adenomyosis, and a good amount of fibroids. I'm 42 now. I am now almost 8 months post op vsg and have had the following PCOS related issues clear up:

Blood sugar is no longer abnormal, so no more insulin resistence
Cholesterol is now normal
Blood pressure is now normal
I don't have near the dark hair/facial hair problem like I did before
I no longer have the dark skin Patches common to PCOS on my neck, armpits, or groin
My remaining ovary has not been troublesome
Hormones much more stable, even with the crazy hormone stuff that comes with VSG weight loss in the first few months

If there's something specific you'd like to know what I didn't answer, please ask. I know my case is a little different since I had a hysterectomy and don't have periods but I still have PCOS.

I have also been diagnosed with PCOS and my PCP assured me that WLS would help with the side effects of PCOS... so there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Insulin resistance levels have been high since I was 14. Now 3 months Post op and 22 years old, they are in the normal range and I lost 43 lbs

Yeah weight loss will help PCOS but not cure it, but the differences are like night and day.

My only problem with pcos is the 5o'clock shadow and dark spots on skin on armpits, I'm lucky enough to not have anything else and I'm not diabetic nor do I take metaformin anymore.

I have successfully had a baby without help tho and that's after being told pcos would make me infertile - guess what doc - got that wrong lol.

Surgery in 20 days so looking forward to never having to wax my chin again!

@ebe44 Mine hasn't gone away entirely, but it's far less noticeable and easier to manage since surgery for sure.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
