My big question is how long will I have to deal this with Hair loss? ??? I am right at 5 months...sleeved 10/3/16. Mine has been really shedding for about 3 weeks. And does it affect your eyelashes??? I swear mine are disappearing. And.....most importantly, when can I hope for some of it to start to grow back. I am so happy with every thing else that is happening, I hate to complain, but I would like to know when the light at the end of the tunnel will show up. Thanks for any wisdom you all might have.

My Hair loss started at month two and just now (five months last week) has started to really slow down. I started with very thick hair and I don't take Biotin.

From what I understand it is a process that is triggered by the trauma of surgery and that it actually begins long before the hair actually starts falling out. And! That the new hair hasn't yet come in. We can take all the preventative steps possible such as hitting Protein targets, taking Biotin and using products like nioxin but if its going to happen to you... it will happen. And it will stop when it is done.

The good thing is that the hair will grow back. I am just four weeks out and haven't yet encountered this problem, and I've armed myself with all the preventative measures knowing it may just fall out still. I can only hope that this side effect will be short term. And! I could only hope if it does fall out that it grows in thicker. I have just thin fine hair.

Mine started at 2 months and quit at 9. Fortunately I have enough hair for 2 people so it wasn't traumatic for me but it was unsettling to see so much hair in the drain after a shower. Only took regular bariatric supplements. My dr said nothing would keep it from happening. My eyelashes were already very thin (I'm 61 and that's normal) but I started using latisse which is rogaine for eyes. Works beautifully.

I'm close to 2 months out but from what I've heard, it is almost inevitable. I've already started looking at hair pieces and weaves since my hair is already thin. I hear Biotin helps with the regrowth, but may not help with prevention.

11 months out. I did loose hair for sure, and I don't feel like I could afford to, so it sucked. But I can see 2" strands growing back all over my head now. I didn't do any special Shampoo or take any different pills until about a week ago, when I started 2 Biotin gummies a day. So the hair was coming in already, but thought no harm in giving it a little boost. I am anxious to see how it fills in during the next year. Having to use powder to help fill in the gaps while it is so thin. Hang in there it will grow back.

I thought I was going to skip this, but nope. My hair started thinning badly about 4 months post-op. I've been taking biotin- not sure if it'll help, but it can't hurt, right? I think I'm finally losing less (or is there just less to lose, hahaha!), but it's hard to tell. I stayed with my regular Shampoo and conditioner (for damaged hair, because I blow dry and use a curling iron), hit my Protein goals, take my Vitamins, take the Biotin. I figure it'll grow back eventually- I just need to treat it as gently as possible until then!

I lost hair from about 5-6 months post op to about 8-9 months post op (now 10 months post op). My hair was thick so it actually suited me. My weight loss has stopped now (which is fine as my BMI is only just above 25) and so has the Hair loss but I assumed that it was coincidence that happened at the same time.

My hair is thick. After reading everyone else's posts, I'm so scared of the Hair loss. It's amazing how our bodies change so much after surgery.

Height: 5'0"
Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs.
Surgery date: 2/13/17
Goal: -71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs).

I just came back from seeing my doctor about my thyroid my numbers were off again. He says it is because of the Biotin that i was taking he took me off of them said it had been discovered that folks that take the biotin have been having issues with the thyroid.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
