Post op, help with chest pain and abdominal pain

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I have my surgery scheduled march 10th. I have been reading post op problems people face.. such as chest pain, abdominal pain, and bloating. Can some one help in how to make these less painful? Any tricks?

Sounds like a cheap answer but really walking as much as possible in the early days is one of the best things you can do.

At home you may want to think ahead and take into consideration the furniture you have. If you have a lower sitting chair you may want to put a pillow or folded blanket down to help elevate you a bit. I would go through phases when I would have some abdominal pain. I'd hold a pillow against my stomach as I stood up to help keep things in place a bit more.

It's also tough to say what's best as everybody is different. What one person struggles with another doesn't. As long as it isn't giving you problems take the pain meds that get prescribed to you. They give them to you for a reason! The first few days I was home I took them every 4 hours as prescribed. I wasn't going to wait until I was hurting to take a pill. Within a few days I didn't need them at all.

Good luck with your surgery!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
