Ready to join the "Band" wagon

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

My bestfriend had RNY 4 yrs ago. I told myself that no matter what I would never consider any surgery. I just kept telling myself that I would just exercise the pounds away. Well, I have tried everything. I have been overweight since my daughter was born...1979...I have lost weight on several diets but it always comes back plus more...

I finally went to a Lap-Band seminar. I was so impressed. I have my first meeting with Dr. MS on Oct. 5. I am hoping to be banded by Nov. 7.

I thought that in my research that I should check out the "Horror Stories" all that did was confuse me. I don't know if they were just unhappy people who thought that the "Band" was a fix and not a tool , but I have decided to go for it.:whoo:

I am 48 and I keep thinking that I am too old for this. :faint:Then I thought that if I don't I will not be around to watch my twin Granddaughters grow up. Wish me luck!!

Hi Suecasb...

Thanks so very much for the reply...I am so happy for you, too.. It has truly brightened my outlook for the future.

I have also decided NOT to tell anyone but my husband and kids, for now anyway..

I was wondering if anyone else had told their boss that they were having a different surgery when they put in for the time off

Hi Goldie,

I have told my supervisor and manager the truth, they both know how hard I have been trying to lose weight and are both very supportive. They are almost as excited as I was when I got my first appointment.

I'm due to see the dietician on Friday and then the surgeon the following Wednesday and will hopefully have a date soon. When I spoke to the practice nurse at the surgery (she is also lapbanded) and told her of the things I had read on some of the threads and other bulletin boards, she reminded me that this is sometimes the only outlet people have because they haven't told people or have any personal support and so they seek help here. But I also know that there are more people out there that are glad they had the surgery than those who aren't.

Maybe we'll all be banded around the same time and can exchange stories etc.

Goldie, you are never too old to be better.....and healthier! I had my surgery one week ago and have lost 13 lbs....am off one of my 5 diabetes medications....hey, I'm not going to look 25 at this age anyway, but that's not the goal....same with you, be around for your grandchildren!

Good luck !

Hi suzygale - I see that you have lost 13 pounds in one week - congratulations! I was banded on Wednesday and when I weighed myself on Thursday I had gained 4 pounds! Today I have lost 2 of those pounds but still a little bummed. Did you weigh yourself during the week? When did you notice you had dropped the weight?

Thanks!

Hi Goldie, I'm 51 and can't wait to get approved. I want to be healthy and be around for many years! Don't let your age stop you from achieving your goals. Remember age is just a number!

Keep reading here, I found a lot of info and it has only inspired me to keep coming back and learning as much as possible before I have my surgery.

Hi Goldie!

I was banded at age 49.

My only regret was not being banded earlier.

And my Grandsons LOVE having an active Grandpa!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
