Has anyone shopped at Steve & Barry's for the Bitten Line

Recommended Posts

So I have been to Steve & Barry's 3 times now and each time I am terribly disappointed. Sara Jessica Parker's new line of clothing "Bitten" is supposed to fit women sizes 2-22; however, SHE LIES!!! I am a size 16/18 now and I couldn't find anything that would fit.

Clothing sizes can be so frustrating. In one store you can be a 16 and in the next store you are a 20. It sucks when the scale is going down but your clothing is not reflecting it. Oh well maybe in 20lbs I will see the size change. I am beginning to wonder if I will ever make an 8/10.

I range from a 14 to a 26. Most often I'm an 18/20 (split between a 1x and a 2x). A little consistency would be nice, especially since I tend to buy things and try them on at home.

Please don't use those clothes to gauge your size. They are WAY small. They are cheaply made and badly sized. I find that I am never the same size from store to store. It makes shopping a lot more difficult than it should be!

I ordered some SJP stuff off eBay and the clothes were at least 2 sizes smaller than the stated size.... What she calls a 16 is a 12 at best.

One issue could be whether or not they are misses vs. women's clothing sizes. Misses tend to run smaller than women's.

Misses Size 18

Bust 43-1/2"

Waist 36-1/2"

Hip 46-1/2"

Women's Size 18

Bust 45"

Waist 39-40"

Hip 48"

Those are from the Land's End site. Most sites have a similar discrepancy although actual measurements may vary.

I know what you mean, it's frustrating when you have to try on a bunch of different sizes to find something that fits. No offense to SJP, but I think it's nearly possible for such a tiny person to know what it takes to make great clothes for us larger gals. We have curvier frames and problem areas that skinny people may never have to consider--upper arms, anyone?

It is interesting, though, that the same size can have different measurements depending on if it's a misses or a womens--btw, why would they even bother making a misses 22? I try to look on the bright side, however, the more weight I lose, the more options I'll have and the better I'll look and feel no matter what I'm wearing :)

That's so disappointing. I was hoping to go to Steve & Barrys to find some clothes cheaply! I can't afford to replace my wardrobe with expensive clothes as many times as it's gonna take until I get to goal. I told my friend that she's going to get tired of seeing my same 7 outfits every week!!

My upper arms are probably my biggest problem. I have to go up a size just because of my arms and then the shirt looks sloppy. I found some clothes in women's sizes at CATO and some were on clearance. I cleaned out my closet today and got rid of all the big stuff and I am left with a pretty bare closet. Oh well, I guess I will have to deal for a while until I change another size or two. Can't break the bank going for clothes too often.

I know what stores fit me with what sizes.. Like Alloy.com sells plus size-tall pants. I haven't bought pants from anywhere else in years and years. But I know their sizes run small, they're 'junior plus' instead of 'womens plus'.. or 'misses plus'.. which are huge differences.

Maybe SJP line is junior plus sizes? I haven't heard about it..

I Like Cato, their sizes are normally big for the size I've found.. but they don't seem to have the same brands because some of the brands run small for the size.

I tried the Bitten line and love the look of the clothes, but I too had to go up one size. I normally wear a size 20 (recently down from a 22) and had to go up to a 22 (how depressing, since I measure weight loss in my clothing size! I even got a wool pea coat for 20 bucks! The shirts are true to size for me. And I love the style, can't beat it for the price!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
