Professional chef looking to have surgery in May

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I am new here but partially into my journey already. I have at one point lost 200 pounds on my own, but have since put back on 125. I have submitted all the requirements to my insurance company so now I am playing the waiting game hoping for a surgery date in mid may. Complicating things is that I am the chef for a major league baseball team and this surgery would be at the beginning of a baseball long season. Nevertheless, I am ready for the challenge.

I'm hoping for April. I don't have a baseball team to cook for but a 15 year old who's 6.4 and still growing.

I'm looking at a May surgery date as well, hope all goes smoothly for you! Oh and queendeborahbee, my son is also 6'4 and still growing at 16 so I know how you feel! Definitely see the similarities between feeding him and an entire team lol

Good for you, chef! If Graham Elliot can do it, so can you! Good luck!

Have you started planning how you will get your Protein? i have a recipe book for shakes and I have purchased Protein Powder and sugar free Syrup. I also plan to cook some organic chickens so I will have healthy broth to drink after surgery. What are your plans?

For sure. He is a friend of mine and actually helped me get started on this journey.

Usually takes about a week to hear back from the insurance. Then after that you will have a quick surgery date. I say you could probably get one for the beginning or mid of april. Unless you really want May surgery date.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
