Gas when eating post op?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I am 39 days post op. I have been having an insane amount of gas when I eat. I mean, literally after EVERY bite Ill have to wait several minutes because I keep having to burp to relieve the discomfort the gas is causing in my pouch. This is whenever I eat, there is no specific food that does it. Drinking doesn't seem to do it. At least, it doesn't do it as much. Im really at a loss of what to do here. Its getting to the point where I just don't want to eat at all. This hasn't been happening the whole time but its been happening a lot this past week and just been getting progressively worse :( anybody have the same or a similar problem? I don't see the point in taking gas x or anything like that because its only when I eat and the gas is coming up.

I tend to burp a lot to. I never had a problem burping but now it's more frequent. If there are certain foods that cause more gas then others you might want to avoid those foods.

I'm newly sleeved this past Monday, and besides the nausea I also have the same gas issue. It's making it very difficult to just get my Water intake. Even a sip of water causes a 10 minute long painful gas/burping episode.

Gas has to come from somewhere. Right after surgery it is coming from the procedure. Later it might come from swallowing air. It might come from the bacteria in the intestines. If the patient is constipated, or has slow digestion, the food in the intestines sits around, producing more gas.

Probiotics can help establish healthy gut bacteria. Fiber and stool softeners can help expedite the bowels. Chewing and swallowing carefully can help with swallowed air.

Pay attention to what you eat. Many of us become lactose intolerant. Other food intolerances can develop too.

Hope any of this helps! Gas-x strips might help while you figure it out.

Has this gotten better for you? I'm having this issue now. I'm struggling to fight the pain-disincentive when I drink. I'm hoping it's very temporary.

Hi. Im 3 mos post op and the gas is still there with every meal. The one thing i hv found that works for me is gas x and sipping very hot tea before and along with every meal. Helps the food move along smoothly. I swear Cold drinks tighten my pouch and its pain and agony as the food feels stuck while the gas is fighting to get past the food. Give it a shot, works well 4 me. Tea with meals and cold drink some time later after the meal. Takes getting use to especially since i love ice cold drinks. Good luck. Feel better.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
