Body temperature question

Recommended Posts

Before having my surgery, I was always way too hot. It could be 20 below, and I'd be sweating up a storm. Since losing my weight, I can never get warm enough! To give you an example, I can barely write most of the time because my hands are so cold! I figured that it was just because I've lost weight so quickly (lost my layers of insulation!), and my body hasn't learned to regulate its temperature yet. But tonight, my husband was saying that it has nothing to do with regulating my body temp and since it's a matter of no longer having that insulation, I'll probably just have to learn to enjoy wearing sweaters when it's 110 degrees outside.

What about you? Are you experiencing this? If you've been banded for a while, did your body ever learn to get itself warm again?

YES!!!! My PCP rechecked my thyroid last month because he's known me for years. It was fine. I know my blood pressure is great now, so maybe that affects our body temps. too. I've always had my "thermostat stuck on high". Felt like I'd just burst into flames, I'd get so hot. Never wore a sweater, about died in the summers down here. Now I wear gloves when I'm on typing on the computer sometimes. I bought some cute slip-on fleece-lined boots that are wonderfully warm and comfy. And I now can wear those pretty sweater sets that are out. Before, no way! I'm just hoping this means we'll be able to enjoy our summers better too!!

My Dr said same thing as Michelle's but added that when your overweight your body is alway warmer cause your heart is working harder to function and this raises the body temp.

Prior to being banded I would sweat in a cold shower in the middle of winter. Never had covers over my oversized naked body in bed. Now, I still take cold showers ever now and then LOL but don't sweat, and I can't find enough blankets to put on when I sleep.

Great question Heather!

How funny... I just told my mom LASTNIGHT that I stay cold, wondering if I have thyroid problems (Marie - we were thinking alike).

We were visiting at my parents and I was the only one wrapped up in a blanket... I was freezing!!!

I used to sleep in just a gown; now I wear gown, sleep pants and socks - then I put a blanket on my side of the bed.

Glad to know Im not the only one looking like an eskimo (sp?) when its 70 degrees outside.

Nancy, 60 lbs in 3 months, that's wonderful. Is the 1cc still holding you? My dr is planning on a fill every month. Hope I won't need one every month. Keep up the good work.

And here I was hoping that losing a bunch of weight would raise my core temp. I run a full degree lower than the normal person, and as such, have a very low metabolic rate. Of course, those of us who are fans of forensic shows know what this mean too....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
