Yes, being put under scares me.
I have had surgeries before, but I have never been comfortable with being put under.
I am always afraid I won't wake up.
My BMI is 56
I have high blood pressure
Sleep apnea
Fatty Liver Disease
Chronic back pain
Fatigue
Depression
Low self esteem
I need to lose roughly 200 pounds.
I am 6 foot 1 and I currently weigh 420 pounds.

I had the same fear of being put under I think we all do but you just have to trust your Drs and decide if it's worth the risks.

I can promise you that having this surgery and losing the weight will help with all of these things. The difference in my self esteem and how I feel about myself alone is incredible!

I no longer have sleep apnea, back pain or high blood pressure and that was after just 6 months. Do you have the full support of your family?? And will your wife be your exercise buddy??

I can't believe it's been almost 9 months since this life changing event for me! It wasn't until I put these photos beside each other that I realised just how do different I look.
HW - 140kg or 310lbs
SW - 132.5kg or 291lbs
CW - 84kg or 185lbs
Surgery Date - 7 June 2016
I've dropped 10 dress sizes and lost 54kg or 120lbs and am now wearing and Australian size 12 top and bottom. I've never been a size 12 in my entire adult life []
After having a pretty shit year last year, I'm so glad I did this []
I can pretty much eat anything now, just obviously in much smaller quantities.

That's amazing! How do u get enough Water and Protein daily, especially right after the surgery?

Right after the surgery it was really hard to hit both of these goals, but now I hit my Protein goals daily. Water I often hit but I really need to think about it. All I drink I coffee and water, so that helps.

I'm not a fan of Protein Shakes so I eat my protein each day, the only supplement I use is in protein balls that I make and eat for Breakfast. The rest is in Jerky, cheese, yoghurt, chicken, beef, milk.

I use MFP to track protein, which makes it much easier.

I have had surgery 3 times before, and never had an issue with anesthesia but it still scares me.
My wife will be my exercise buddy.
Her surgery is on pace for April, mine won't be until August.
Most of my family and her family is supportive.
My dad isn't real sure about it, he still thinks I could lose it on my own.
Sometimes I feel like I can lose it on my own, but then the next day I feel like I can't do it by myself.

That's what everyone was telling me! You can do it on your own! Well I exercise every day at the YMCA from weight to Water aerobics to walking and taking classes but when could never get out of the 200 lb weight mark ! Now I'm finally less then 200 and loving it can't wait to reach my goal weight of 130 lb! Good luck to you and your wife! Stay positive [emoji3]

Thank you.
We have both had success with weight loss in the past, but that was a decade ago.
It was before we knew each other, before we had kids.
It was a different situation.
I have to get weight off, I am miserable at my current weight.
My body can't handle the strain of being 420 pounds.

You look awesome.
Those pictures are incredible.
My wife and I are in the process of getting gastric sleeve.
I keep going back and forth on whether or not I will get it.
My wife is full steam ahead and on pace for surgery in April.
Mine won't be until August.

I felt the same way leading up to my surgery. I don't regret it and am praying that I can be focused and strict so I get to goal fast. Then I'd like to maintain for a year with exercise before considering plastics.

My recovery was good. I felt like crap the day of surgery and it just slowly got better hour by hour.

I was back to work for a few hours 3 days post op. Then back full time 1 week post op. No problems. I just finished up my work week and was a little tired today, but I took and nap and I'm all good.

The sacrifices are worth the long term health and lifestyle gains :)

Jobey- you look great! Very inspirational, thanks for the post. Seeing people who have been through this and come out doing so well is uplifting. I'm just over a week out and I can't wait to be where you are :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
