Despite being diagnosed with reflux, I didn't experience heartburn pre RNY.

But now I'm experiencing it even though I take Protonix twice a day.

I'm currently experiencing an episode that has lasted for several hours and it’s pure agony.

What you are probably experiencing is dumping syndrome which can act very similar to severe acid reflux.

An episode can last for several hours. You can relieve it a little by vomiting. Try and remain vertical rather than horizontal. You cannot sleep and it is better to just try and stay awake by watching television until the condition eases up. Also never try and eat before bedtime.

Can you get dumping after spicy food?

What I ate both times wasn't greasy or fatty, just spicy.

I did throw up the first time I felt like this.

But with this episode, I wasn't nauseous and I didn't feel like throwing up.

I do not think it was because of the spiciness. I have dumped several times and it generally is due to the fact that I ate too much.

Be aware of the pre-triggers. These pre-triggers can be sneezing, hiccups, becoming congested very quickly, or even the taste of food suddenly changing. So the pre-triggers warn me when I am at my limit. So I stop. Another bite I will be in full dumping mode.

I took maybe two or four small bites (I chewed well) bites and stopped. The spiciness hit me and I didn't want to continue eating anymore.

I have thrown up too many times from eating too fast or eating to fullness.

Yesterday's episode felt different from those other times though.

I'm still feeling the heartburn type pain and it’s even difficult to get liquids down.

I do not like how I feel after eating spicy food period, so I still want to avoid it.

Two of the common problems after gastric bypass surgery are strictures and ulcers.

Strictures can occur once you are about 4 to 8 weeks out from surgery. A stricture is a narrowing of the new stomach outlet where it surgically attached to the small bowel. Symptoms include difficulty with eating solid foods, developing increased saliva or mucous, reflux symptoms, and in severe cases, difficulty with liquids. So if you are having a hard time getting liquids down, this may be the cause.

I'm going to call my surgeon tomorrow.

I've even thrown up my Vitamins twice today.

Definitely call your doctor, but I have it worse now that I have had RNY then I had it with the sleeve (gerd was the reason I was revised to RNY). My doc says sometimes it takes the body a little while to stop producing gastric juices.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
