Hi I'm Molly I'm a foodaholic

Recommended Posts

I am truly battling a food addiction. I am 4 months post op. Down 70 pounds. But still have the urge to just eat all the time. And I'm talking eat badly.

I follow my diet and guidelines all week. Once the weekend hits idk what gets me but I eat basically whatever I want. I don't know how to stop myself and how to get past the mental part of this.

I've gone through depression post op and gotten past that. But now I feel my old habits creeping in and it's bad. I need suggestions and advice. I need to know how others have fought their addiction to food. Please share any wisdom.

Today I had Girl Scout Cookies and chicken nuggets. Then I go through this awful, unbearable shame after. It's exhausting. I need help. Thank you :(

If you are struggling with the mental part of the game this much, I recommend that you work with a professional on a regular basis -- a nutritionist with regular appointments to keep you accountable, and, most importantly, a psychologist with experience with bariatric patients -- again with regular appointments to keep you accountable. I know that it might be a financial investment, but your health and success are worth it. I would hate to see anyone waste the opportunity to lose the excess weight and lead a more healthy life.

You might also consider Overeaters Anonymous. Again, if for nothing else, for the accountability.

Good luck!

Hi Molly.
I have not been sleeved yet, but I am in the process of getting approved.
I know I am a food addict.
I am a recovering alcoholic and have been sober almost 9 years.
My addiction has transferred to food since getting sober.
I recommend what the previous poster has said, work with a therapist.
See if you can establish why you want to eat?
Is it due to stress?
Is it due to depression?
What is the driving force?
You could also look into Over-Eaters Anonymous.
Also Food Addicts Anonymous.
I hope this helps.
Know that you are not alone, many people have the same struggles as you.
Myself included.

Hi Molly, it's so great that you brought this up. I'm definitely a food addict. At first I had no cravings and I'd say for the most part I still don't. I think this is partly because I am eating very low carb. I'm addicted to starches and sweets so I'm scared of even trying them. However, in the last two weeks I noticed that I'm dealing with head hunger at night. One night I ate like 600 calories after I'd brushed my teeth and gotten into bed. I do so well during the day but the nights are hard. I'm not surprised because I've long been a night eater. A few nights this week I've exercised pretty late at night in an attempt to wear myself out. Lol. I've also enrolled in a mindful eating class to hopefully address this. They'll be using another book, but I recommend this one. It's not really a diet book. It's about eating mindfully and taking care of yourself: http://jeanfain.com/selfcompassiondiet.html

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
