Hey everyone! Just wondering how long post op you waited to introduce cooked greens (turnips, collards, kale, etc) and how did it go? I'm one month post op and at the solid introduction phase of my program. My program discourages raw fruits and veggies for up to 6 mths, including lettuce, but encourages moist cooked veggies. I'm considering trying to introduce cooked greens to my diet, but I'm not sure. My nut is on maternity leave and her temp is not very helpful. Just wondering what other vsg-ers have experienced.

This is a great question and I'm eager for a response as well. Our nutrition program discourages raw fruits and veggies for 3 months but there was no exemptions on cooked veggies. I'd love to start including kale, spinach and chard in my meals.

I eat greens on a regular basis now, but in the beginning there just isn't room. The good news is that they will send you to the bathroom with a sense of urgency no matter how constipated you are, so keep that in mind when you haven't had a BM in a long time.

Even though they are cooked, they are still pretty fibrous and that can be difficult on your digestive system the first year. I wouldn't recommend trying them without your surgeons or the PA clearance. I don't have a very high opinion of NUT's.

Those are some good points. I see my surgeon on Monday, and my nut on the 23rd... I'll weigh in their opinions before proceeding.

I feel like your body will let you know if it can't handle something. If I choose Protein first I never have room for greens. I don't think that's good either. I ate a bit of raw fruit early. No problems.
