I don't know about free samples, but the BariatricPal Store sells a sampler variety bag so you can try all of the flavors. I also found a variety pack on mybariatricpantry.com.

So far they're the only Protein Drink I've been able to tolerate without gagging (and I've tried A LOT), but everyone is so different regarding what they do and do not like, so it's hard to say. The variety pack from My bariatric pantry was less expensive than here (Only $20 - although it only came with 10 packs), and I think I've seen a 7 pack sampler elsewhere online for under $15.

I think pretty much all 100% whey Protein isolate powders are expensive. But if you're early out, whey protein isolate is probably your best choice as it's well-absorbed. Syntrax Nectar and Unjury products are my favorite - they don't have that "protein taste" that a lot of others do.

Nectars are the only Protein Drink I have ever been able to stomach, and I am almost 2 years post op. I bought mine online at nashuanutrition.com because I could get 1 packet of the flavors to try. I like most of them, but there are a couple I didn't care for. I know they are expensive (most are) but since it was the only one I could get down it was well worth it to me!

The company that makes it actually is offering a sampler special on their homepage at https://www.si03.com/

I just called in and ordered. It was $16.99 w/shipping and the nice thing is, you get a packet of each flavor to try. I think that's a fair price. That's the cheapest I've seen for the sampler pack.

I've read a ton of reviews and other WLS patients say that this Syntrax brand is one of the best on the market for quality Protein and it tastes good and is easy to mix. I'm going to give it a try!

Are they worth the cost? Seems very expensive

Honestly, I bought the sampler tried one and the rest is still sitting in the pantry for October :/

I love them - they've been my go-to Protein Powder since I started with my pre-op diet. They mix really well (no clumping) and have natural flavours. That said, since surgery, there are a couple of flavours that don't taste quite the same for me (but not all of them).

Get the Sampler Pack (Variety Pack?) and try it out. Go to the webpage (si03.com) and hover your mouse over the upper right quadrant where is says "Special Offer" or something like that. For $16.99 you'll get 15 samples, all different flavors, so you can try them out before making a major purchase. Syntrax Nectars are the only powders I drink. Some I mix with Water (juicy ones, tea) and some with unsweetened almond milk (regular or vanilla) as I can't tolerate skim milk. I mix them in a shaker bottle I bought at Walmart for about $10; it has a coiled wire ball inside and it mixes the Protein powder very well/easily! Luckyvitamin.com is the cheapest source I've found for the 2.2 bottles of Syntrax Nectars.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
