Gastric sleeve with BMI of 35 - planning ahead

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I am new to this and booked in for my gastric sleeve in Perth, Western Australia, next week. I am not your typical patient - my BMI is 35, I am 25 kgs overweight, but not (yet) morbidly obese. However, at 42, I have high cholesterol, fatty liver disease, am pre-diabetic, have a pile of stomach ulcers and genetically just get heavier every year. I have never been able to diet/exercise to lose weight. I work 15 hours a day which doesn't help. Most of my weight is in one spot - my 'pot belly'. I am having this op given my stressful career, hatred of exercise and inherited genetics. Call it playing the long game and sacrificing food to be around for my kids and grand kids. And I love work so don't want to have to stop for decades!

Sorry for the long intro, but just wondering who else has had a gastric sleeve for reasons like this and what the results have been etc...?

My BMI is 31/32, and I'm having it done May.23rd. I can't loose this 50-60lbs on my own. I've lost 25 every year and gain it back +more. I don't have an comorbitities, but I also don't want any. I've struggled with being overweight since college, and I want my life back, more me and my Family!I'm 41 years old, married with our 2 kids. My husband is supportive , but not overly happy, he's a little scared I might get too small.

I was sleeved with BMI of 34. I was able to stay "acceptably overweight" until my last pregnancy; turning 40 really changed my metabolism and each year, I gained more, became pre diabetic and my BP was no longer controllable with meds. My mother is obese and in a wheelchair, and I felt like that was one possible outcome for me if I didn't do something. I'm at a healthy BMI now; I still need BP Meds (can't change genetics!) but I'm otherwise very healthy. I can exercise and have lots of energy-- like you, I wanted to be here for my children and future grandchildren. I'm happy with my choice and wish I'd done it sooner.

How long ago did you get sleeved? I'm really nervous about Hair loss, did it happen to you?

thanks

I was sleeved July 2016. I did have Hair loss at 4 months post op. However, it's growing back nice and healthy! My hair stylist said I lost about 15% in volume, which is a lot for a Bariatricc patient. I take Biotin for regrowth and as a bonus, my eyelashes have never been so long in my life!

I'm in Melb. This year I am having a bypass for the same reasons.

I seem to have virtually every comorbitity with a BMI of 34 - coupled with the fact that both brothers had heart attacks at my age ( 48).. I thought I was all alone in the BMI range !

Hi Triplethreat, wondering which brand and dosage of Biotin you take as I have very weak hair and nails, so mighte benefit from taking this myself.

I stayed at my goal for 7 years. I wouldn't be having my band removed if it had not slipped. Im scheduled to be sleeved may 30

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
