Can you lose too much weight preop?

Recommended Posts

If you can lose so much on your own....why do this drastic surgery.

How do you rationalize, removing 80% of your stomach. I was hopeless and did this insane surgery.

Now I am losing too fast and could care less about the weight loss.

I would take every single pound back not to be on daily meds for this acid reflux

I can lose weight like a pro, but never ever in my whole 45 years of dozens of diets have I ever been able to keep it off. I've lost 120, 100, and 170 pounds plus more 10-30 pounds lost diets than I can count and always gained it back. A 100% personal failure rate is why I thoughtfully considered and went through with surgery. So far so good.

I'm sorry you're unhappy, but this is lifesaving for many people.

I rationalize it as I have lost weight and always gained it back plus more and I'm tired of doing that over and over and the way it wreaks havoc on my life and body. And I am tired of being afraid of gaining even more weight in the future and getting sick from it like the rest of my family. I'm sorry you're unhappy but all of us here have good reasons and evidence to believe we CANT do it on our own... thus why we are here!

I imagine there was a valid reason for your surgery (especially if done in Canada).. comorbidities associated with obesity, and the severity of these that leads to decreased lifespan, tend to drastically outweigh the annoyance of taking PPI's for reflux.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
