Limocurly 3 Posted March 2, 2017 Hello!! I'm new to this site. In 2008 ,I had the lap band, lost some weight and have gained it back. I am having a revision to the sleeve and was wondering what is the downtime. I work in a clinic , where I walk a lot and have to pick up things up to 30 lbs. I was thinking of two weeks off should be more than enough. Thoughts please, thanks in advance!! 1 Treesa reacted to this
Treesa 0 Posted March 2, 2017 Hi. I've also had lap band surgery in December of 2008. I had problems from the start. I lost weight very slowly with many many adjustments. I finally lost 75 pounds but now I've gained it all back plus some. I want to get the sleeve. Any suggestions for when I go to my consultation? I'm in NYC. valentinavalentine 6 Posted March 2, 2017 Nope, you can't pick up more than 10 pounds the first 2-3 weeks. then after that you can't pick up more than 20 for another 2 weeks. The time-off post surgery is about a month, but i would let your body tell you if you should go back to work or not depending on how you feel! 2 Limocurly and ThickGirl5683 reacted to this
blizair09 3,250 Posted March 2, 2017 I took off 6 weeks after my surgery. This allowed me to recover physically, progress through the majority of the food stages, and adjust to post-op life. I am so glad that I did it. Just keeping up with the Protein and Water requirements in the early days is a full-time job, and I could never have done as well with it as I did had I gone back to work any sooner. The bottom line is that I would take off for as long as your financial, work, and personal situations will allow. Good luck! 2 ThickGirl5683 and Limocurly reacted to this

I had to go back because I was having really bad reflux and needed an EGD. That got the ball rolling and I told them I would like to have the band removed and get the sleeve. We were able to start the process.
painter88 101 Posted March 2, 2017 I started feeling like normal 5 weeks post op. Before 4 weeks, I was still different.
Sullie06 1,013 Posted March 2, 2017 I only took two weeks off from work. The first week back was hard as I was still in some minor pain upon movement. I was on pureed diet weeks 2-4 and then progressed to soft solids until 8 weeks.

crum_lisa 7 Posted March 2, 2017 Today is my first day back at work. Surgery was a week ago Tuesday. (Feb 21st). My job is mostly sitting. I've been here 6 hours and I'm ready to go home. Kind of tired and a little sore. It varies by person and job. [emoji2]
char3672 292 Posted March 3, 2017 I am having surgery (sleeve) in June. I work with 2 yr olds which involves alot of stooping, bending, getting up and down from sitting on the floor and also lifting. I chose to wait until June so I would have approx 8 weeks recovery time ( I'm off in the Summer) do you think that will be enough time to be completely healed? KatyasMommy 56 Posted March 3, 2017 I'm the black sheep here. Had surgery Friday 2/17 and we had Monday off and went back to work by Tuesday 2/21. I'm a teacher and took half days for the first week and as of 2/28 I started full days again. My energy is pretty high for some reason. I feel no pain just still cautious of my stomach and staying away from the tight hugs from the kiddos! Good luck to you! 1 Limocurly reacted to this

Sorta feeling back to normal but still with low energy Agreed. I came back to work after about 2 1/2 weeks off. I have a desk job so it wasn't terrible, but I was exhausted that first week and that's from sitting in front of a computer all day long. Like Sugar said, though, it really is up to the individual. If you're used to be up on your feet a lot you may bounce back quicker compared to somebody like me that is used to sitting. I told my boss flat out I'm taking 2 weeks minimum, but know that it could be 3-4 weeks if I can't manage it, and he was understanding.

She was very understanding, but I'm hoping I don't have to miss anytime since I have 8 or 9 weeks off in the Summer.
