Business Traveling & Food Choices

Recommended Posts

Hi all...

I'm slowly adding in foods after 1 month post-op. I travel about 60% of my time for work, I find I just can't go through a fast food drive-through anymore. I went to lunch with coworkers to a local diner, which food choices were your typical pub sandwiches, salads, fried stuff, appetizers chili...etc.

I would love some restaurant suggestions from those that travel a lot. Plus how you manage situations where food choices were very limited.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I'm not quite one month, but eating solid foods. Like you, I travel at least 50% of my time.

Of course, fast food is not really an option. I'm eating a bunch of fish. So far, my preference is Sea Bass or Salmon. Sides are really a hit or miss. Typically the fish portion is enough

I travel for work. I'm not a month in yet but I made a list for myself. If sandwiches are the only option, I'll just take out the bread. Or have whole wheat bread only. If I do to a restaurant or pub I'll look at the appetizers. Some pubs here make deviled eggs, which would be a good option. Basically, any chicken or fish that are grilled or baked. Keep the sides vegetables only. I live in California so we have "In & Out", luckily they make Protein burgers which are burgers wrapped in lettuce instead of bread.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
