Excess skin removal = altered tattoos?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone has experienced a change in the appearance of their tattoos due to the surgery to remove excess skin. I had my VSG on April 18, 2016 with a pre-surgery weight of 219 and am currently at 160 (still 40#'s) away from my goal of 120 so I still have time before I talk to a plastic surgeon, just curious of anyone's experiences. Thanks all, and congrats to everyone on your progress and results

I remember a poster on here had Tattoos (Lellow) - She had surgery and they were changed and if I recall she had more - Pretty wonderful - Tattoos to make the old ones kinda blend in...

Hope this helps some....

My PS stated he could preserve the tech to Or target that area for a complete removal Like you I started at about 224 and I had a plastic surgery at about 122 pounds The tattoo is about 2.5" x 3" I had a lot of skin to work with and 1 tattoo so maybe I had more options my PS did target areas with stretch marks for removal These were conversations on my pre-surgery checklist that I printed out and provided him with a copy of so we would positively discuss everyone in my presurgical appointment visit. I am a touch Type A I had another list surgery morning of things I wouldn't be able to say while in surgery LOL

Thanks everyone, I guess my main concern regarding tattoos is due to the large one on my back, it goes from my mid-back to partly down my cheeks taking up just short of half of my back., It's not my only tattoo but the one I'm more curious about possibly changing.

Hi there and congratulations on your WLS success. Yes, any tattoos in the "weight loss zone" will be impacted. Could you have your tattoo artist revise or cover up once you're at goal and had the plastic surgery?

Thank you all for your responses, since I haven't yet spoken to a PS I don't know exactly where the surgeon would be working and it is a rather large tattoo so covering or altering it is an option though not inexpensive, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it, I have to focus on reaching my goal first and take time after that to decide what I want to do, even though I would love to have it removed I guess I'll see what the surgeon says they can do when the time comes. Thanks again everyone!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
