Gallbladder removal

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I am new here and going through the pre-op process. I had my consult with the surgeon today and they found on my US that I have gall stones. He said that they would remove the gallbladder during my VSG surgery. Has anyone else had this done? I'm now worried that the process to get a date for my VSG will not move fast enough and I will end up having to have my gallbladder removed beforehand which will push back my VSG date. Apparently the stones are fairly big and I've been having symptoms for months that I didn't realize.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

I had the VGS, gallbladder removal and hernia repair all that the same time. You do run the risk of needing to go into emergency surgery to remove your gallbladder but mostly not. For a little context, I went through 18 months of gallbladder attacks before they figured it out and even THEN they only removed it at the same time as my VGS surgery. And I was put in ICU once and in the hospital for a week a separate time due to the gallbladder. lol! Chances are you will just have to suffer with the gallstones until the surgery. But be on the lookout for any pancreatic attack symptoms as thats what happened to me when I threw a gallstone and it blocked my pancreas. F'd me up but good.

Cross your fingers that the surgery date is soon enough.

Thanks so much for sharing your story. Makes me feel a lot better. This process can be so stressful!

I saw my primary doc today, and she suspects gallbladder issues too. Gonna get an ultrasound!

What sort of symptoms did you have?

I had my gallbladder removed July 2015. It felt like real bad gas pains and nothing would help the pain. So went to ER it was my gallbladder they wanted me to have it out but I was graduating from college that same afternoon. So they gave me pain meds in the hospital and I was fine. I ate a really bland diet and put off the surgery until I was able to find a surgeon that could remove my lapband at the same time. So 2 months later got it taken out. But I didn't have any attacks during those 2 months because I read up on what not to eat. Believe me the pain was so bad I didn't risk eating anything that could flare it up.

I have pain right under my right breast near my ribs. It can be mistaken for gas pains. Also, sometimes I feel nauseous or have diarrhea right after I eat certain foods. I cut out fried foods a few months ago because of this. All this time it was my gallbladder. Are you having similar symptoms?

Had mine out about 15 years ago and it caused a crippling pain my abdomen, after I ate Cheetos, that required me to go to the ER. To this day, I haven't eaten cheetos. But if you can get it taken care of the at the same time as the VSG, then that's great. Just watch the diet and pray no awful pain comes before then.

Well, hard to say. She pressed on my abdomen right under my right rib cage, and kinda hung out there. She asked if it hurt, and there was a sharpish pinchy feeling. It didn't hurt before, but kinda ached for 20 minutes after she pressed on it.

I do get sporatic diarrhea, and frequent oil slicks in the toilet. Hadn't really tied it to specific foods.

In general my BMs are like a box of chocolates, as in "I never know what I'm gonna get". Pasta sauce comes out reddish, Peanut Butter comes out peanut butterish colored, etc. Maybe not quite as dramatic as it sounds, but something seems amiss...

The Protein shake fast is doing crazy things too.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
