My good friends and I Celebrate everything with food. Promotion? Dinner! Birthday? Huge dinner! Good news at work? I'll take you out to lunch! What the heck do we do to celebrate now?

I'm thinking I'll be ordering the sides or apps from now on instead of full dishes. :)

At first eating out is pretty difficult. You can only eat certain things and very little. As time passes, you will be able to eat more and ordering an entree and taking 1/2 home will become a normal occurrence.

My first time eating out I had crab Soup. The second time I had chicken tortilla soup and guacamole that I ate with a fork (no chips). Now I can order chicken, beef or shrimp Entrees (without rice or pasta).

Great option as well! When was your surgery?

It will be April 19th. I'm just trying to get my head in the game. [emoji4]

I just had my surgery 2/11 and I was worried about celebrations as well. I've made a list of alternatives for myself that aren't food driven i.e. Pedicure, massage, a show, day trip, etc. Also plan to use these as milestone rewards since historically when something good happens we eat or drink.

I'm almost 9 weeks post op and I've been out to dinner a couple of times. Honestly it wasn't nearly as bad a I thought. I went out once when I was still on softs and just had Soup. The past couple times were on a regular diet and I just had left overs to take home. I did a lot of slow eating and talking and nobody noticed or said anything. I was really scared about the change in my social life but I'm not so worried anymore. Lots of restaurants have healthy options now. I also look at the appetizers and childrens menu before I order but Ive found the Entrees are better options in most cases.

Soups, baked or grilled (no fried) options, & reduce or have no carbs as much as possible. Use vegetables as a filler. You won't be able to consume much anyway so don't feel bad about taking food home. And make sure you drink non-caloric and non-carbonated beverages.

I go out but I specifically tell the waiter I don't want a side. If I get a sandwich, I eat half the filling and half of one piece of bread. And if the food isn't that great, I don't take leftovers home.

I was amazed how much less I ate just by putting down my fork between bites.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
