I will be 11 weeks post OP when I travel with family to New Orleans. I plan to bring Protein Shakes with me but would love some tips on eating out.

Order Water during the drink ordering. Either sip it, or leave it untouched, depending on your eating rules.

Request your companion order something you can eat and share, or just order a cup of Soup (unless you want leftovers...which can be irritating when traveling).

Some restaurants have a minimum order per person (no sharing policy). Resign yourself to spending the minimum, but you can still share!

The main thing, is remember you are there to have good conversation and socialization. Don't call attention to your food selection, and all will be well.

If you will be at 11 weeks, then maybe you will be on the regular foods stage? So you can get something bariatric friendly... like fish or chicken with veggies. Stay away from the carbs and fried foods. Remember to stick to your plan and get your Protein and healthy fats and small portion of veggies if you have room to eat them.

I'm 15 weeks post op and I've been out to eat twice. Once I got fish with veggies, the next time I got chicken. I took leftovers home both times. There's no shame in not being able to finish the food on your plate... just enjoy what you have and the company you are with.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
