Little amounts. Very little.

Consider the lifestyle change, and consider it in very simple terms: Live like a big person, be a big person. Live like a smaller person, be a smaller person. One may be pissed like oh that's such a tiny amount, but that limitation is part of being a smaller person.

I will most definitely be having a lot of the stuff I had before, the difference therein lies in Portion Control and balance.

I'll use ice cream as an example since I've never been a fan of cake. I'd easily go through 1L of ice cream in a sitting. Post-op, when I can even tolerate ice cream, I expect to have no more than a teaspoon. It may not sound as satisfying but one has to reorder their priorities before even having the surgery, lest it be unsuccessful.

And if you can't see yourself having portion control, it would be better to flat out eliminate.

In my case, the pre-op liquid diet has modified my mindset so much. I feel so much better with portion control, and I'd rather have portion control than 1) feel miserable like I did at my peak weight, and 2) have these shitty Glucerna Meal Replacement drinks. NEVER again.

A typical person can eat ONE brownie or baby cone of ice cream (take the cone and fill it to the top without going over the top).

I think where most of us got into trouble was eating 4 brownies (or the whole pan), and always ordering a large ice cream.

After hitting maintenance, try a normal amount. If it sets up the cravings or weight gain, then that won't work for you.

While still losing, sweets should be either a spoonful or off limits.

"Healthy" sweets are a problem for me because they tend to taste more like food, and I eat more of it... so much so it would have been better to have had a small real sweet.

Play around with it to see what works for you!

I'm a little over 2 months post op and cleared for a normal diet. I spoke with my NUT, who from reading these boards tends to be a little on the free end, and she said that having a taste of sweets is something I have to try and see how it effects me. I had a bite of my husbands cake at a birthday party last weekend and it just didn't do anything for me. Before I would never forgo a chance at dessert but now I'm not bound by it. If I want a taste of something, I'm going to go ahead an taste it. I didn't have this surgery to live on a "diet" for the rest of my life but I've found that I rarely want the taste. I tend to crave fresh veggies now.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
