I went for my pre-op today and they decide to play the money card.. I was taken back of the amount that was quoted differently than first. So the lady asked me .. do you still want to do it! It took everything that I had to tell her that I've come to far and will do what I have to do to make this happen. My heart rate was trying to come up and then a still small voice came over me (The Lord) and said trust. Pre-op ️ pre op diet.. Thursday and surgery March 7! I need some March cheerleaders to help me/us stay focused on this new life GOAL! Ain't no stopping us now ...

So what did she say exactly? Do they want it upfront or can you do payments? I feel like no one has given me prices either, I know my deductible is $250 & then I am also responsible for 20% of procedure but the max I would have to pay is 1700 before insurance or something like that [emoji848]so I don't know exactly how much and that is frustrating. But like you , I'll figure it out .

So the total cost will likely depend on your experience. They likely cant tell you with 100% certainty. Will you stay one night? Have complications and need more care?

Tataworld 605. The 1700 is likely your insurance max out of pocket cost. That includes the deductible of 250 and the 20% coinsurance. If that is your max out of pocket, you will pay no more. You may pay less, but not more.

I wish I was that lucky. I went for pre op testing and my place too wanted money up front part of it at least. I have a $3500 max out of pocket. I was hoping it wouldn't be the whole thing. Minus the $350 I've spent at my physical therapist so far it was the rest of it [emoji20]. Well I had already planned using part of my tax refund for it. But this sucks. I'm still going to have to pay it off because I still have to pay for some of the pre op stuff I had done prior to January [emoji20]

I am so fortunate to have an amazing insurance plan. My total cost for the surgery will be the hospital co pay of $265. Before I switched jobs though, the surgery wasn't covered at ALL, so it would have been $25,000 out of pocket. My new job has provided me with not only great career options, but amazing health insurance and a chance at a new life.

What type of insurance do you have?

What type of insurance do you have?

United Healthcare Choice Plus. Keep in mind that how good your benefits are depend largely on what your employer is willing to pay for. I work for one of the major auto insurance companies, so it seems they know the value of a good insurance plan.
Even when I was first talking to United to find out what costs would be, the rep stated that these were the best benefits she had ever seen. So, again, I'm just so very fortunate.

This is how I looked at it. My hubby said, think of it as you can stay fat and buy a new car or you can get the surgery and ride around skinny in your old car. Since my old car is a cute 2003 pt cruiser, fire red, chromed out, hot little ride.....I opted to spend my new car money on me . My insurance has a 4500. Out of pocket after meeting the 2600. Deductible.
So new me won out over new car. [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]

My deductible is $1000 and my out of pocket max is $4100. I never asked prices because I knew I'd definitely hit that out of pocket maximum. At least I am hitting it early in the year so any follow up care or other medical issues would be 100% covered. My pre-op testing along cost me $2,000 so at this point I'm just praying everything is approved for surgery so that money isn't wasted. My employer offers 2 plans (one has a much lower deductible and much lower out of pocket maximum) but I didn't know I'd be having this surgery when the time came to pick plans :( Major regret now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
