Wendell:

At first, I thought you were posting a list of questions people have asked and I was thinking, Dang, I wish I had the answers to these questions!

And then I scrolled down and there were your answers! Thank you so much. I've been reading a lot and still found information in your list that I hadn't read before. :rose:

Wow, thank you so much Wendell :rose:

I won't say its answered everything, but it answers so many, such a great list.

I'm a mass of emotions right now, so its something I can read and re-read.

thanks again!

You're very welcome! :)

You're very welcome! I have been reading and posting on a lot of forums for a long time now, about 4 years, and I have several lengthy "WORD" files with different questions that I have had to find out the answer for, for myself. :)

Thank you for your replies, support, encouragement and knowledge :)

And IndioGirl55 I really appreciate your honest pro's and con's for this surgery. I truly wish they banded the brain too - wouldn't that help?

I have not yet read why the gas/wind thing happens. (during surgery the pump you up with gas co2 to move stuff around)

I had been wondering about the cravings and comfort eating (if you make your mind up to be banded it should be some motivation no to go after the comfort food - i save my morning & afternoon Snacks and eat them at night - this is my why of making it work for me )- after all, that's why I'm the size I am.

I am hoping that as the size of me drops (assuming I can cope with the not eating, the liquids, the nausea and portion control) I will regain some self esteem, confidence and pride. You do eat - at first maybe 1/2 cup - then as the swelling goes down 1 cup to 2 cup - after fill agin with 1/2 cup - right now i can eat 2 cups - liquids are only for a short period in pre-op and your first couple weeks - nausea - i have never been nausated and last but not least the band does control how much you eat at one sitting -

I do feel acutely uncomfortable telling people, and at this point won't be telling my adult children. I did read where you can't really eat in public (You can eat in public - as long as you chew - eat slowly you shouldn't pb - I went to outback and ate for my DIL Bday - I ate in public on Saturday - charity event - ate salad - Pasta and chicken - no pbing - chewed it was all good and consumed more thatn 2 tblps of food ) - as its fairly obvious there's something not normal LOL going on with the chewing and only consuming 2 tablespoons of food. Which to a great degree won't worry me, but family events leave me wondering! I am thinking that considering what's ahead of me, that its good I'm of a hermit-ish nature!

Thanks again

:kiss

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
