On my way to get my preop blood work done. OMG 6 DAYS and counting. I can't wait. However I'm so scared all together not so much the surgery but the recoup petrifies me not knowing what pain I'm going to be in... but I can do this.

food and fear will not get the best of me. I'm going to do this.

Skinny me coming soon. Yay!!!!!!

I feel the SAME EXACT way. I am not having surgery until June, but I am starting to freak out now. I'm so afraid the fear is going to make me change my mind. I NEED this surgery. I'm willing to make all of the necessary changes to be successful. It's the first week or so after surgery that is scaring me. AND the possibility of problems up to 2 years later.

The pain isn't bad! I didn't use my pain pump much in the hospital and didn't take any pain meds once I got home. And I had a hernia repair too. You'll do fine! I'm 6 days out and feel good.

Did you have the sleeve? I don't think it's the pain I'm afraid of as much as not getting enough fluids in, getting sick, breaking the stitches open (I guess that one is kind of silly) it's more those kinds of things.

this is the same surgery i am getting ready to have, sleeve with hernia repair and i hate taking pain meds, seriously, norco makes me eat, i aint kidding, i get serious hunger pains/pangs from taking narcotic pain meds, which is why i never take them. but my surgeon prescribed liquid tylenol with codeine and said i will be on the pump in hospital. my family doctor has given me norco and i dread taking them, I will take them if the pain is too bad, but dread those hunger pains that accompany them.

I did have the sleeve. The first day home I didn't get enough fluids and felt bad enough I committed myself to sipping every minute the next day. Ever since, no problems there. I never threw up, but did dry heave a bit when I would stand the first day in the hospital. It's the anesthesia. With nothing in your stomach, it's not like throwing up. I would lay down and it would go away. You're stitiches aren't visible. They stitch inside and glue the top skin. No splitting. Truly, it wasn't exactly fun, but I imagine it's like childbirth. Once the unfun part is over, you hardly remember it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
