Flu at 5 weeks post-op

Recommended Posts

I caught the flu and bronchitis last weekend when my granddaughter came for the weekend and I've been sick in bed since last Monday. (today's Monday again now)

I was able to keep down a couple tablespoons of applesauce last night, that was the first thing I've been able to hold down since Breakfast last Monday morning. Now, I have been able to hold fluids for the most part, but not the Protein Shakes at all. I am starting to feel a tiny bit better this morning like maybe I could try to eat something, but I'm scared to try. And I don't know what to try to eat. GOD, I do not want to throw up anymore! I started antibiotics yesterday morning, and I am suppost to eat with them. So I really need to figuire out what I can try so I can take them this morning. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can try to eat so I can take the medication? I figured you guys might know something light and easy on the belly.

I can tell I've lost weight being sick this week. As much as I love the weight loss, I'd take the weight back if I could just not be this sick anymore! Needless to say if I can't hold down food, I haven't been taking the Vitamins either. I need to get these antibiotics in my so I can start feeling better soon!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
