Has anyone tried vitamin patches

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried vitamin patches and if so, have you used it long enough to get your levels tested? I have been using the Patch MD Multivitamin Patches the last few weeks and have started getting very tired and sleeping way more than usual. My vision is also a little off (nothing major but I need to use glasses to read on my tablet , which I typically had no problem reading). I have my 3-month post open this Thursday, but have not gotten any blood work yet. It could just be a coincidence, but my gut feeling is that for the last few weeks I was not getting any Vitamins from the patch. Anyone have any similar or different experiences?

Fyi I have reordered my usual MD recommended vitamins and have taken separate higher dose bilingual B12 an folate. I'm also back on my usual double dose of calcium chews and liquid Iron. I've just started back on the usual vitamins so it's too early to tell if that corrects my situation.

My surgeon started me on vitamin patches pre surgery and I have used them every day since. I am 11 months post op and my levels tested normal. They did put me on extra Vitamin D and B12, but they were just in the low normal range. I have never added any Iron or Calcium but I did have the sleeve, not the bypass. I hate large pills and love the multivitamin patch!

My NUT does not believe they deliver what they claim. I take the Nutrametrix Isotonic Multivitamins and Calcium that you mix with Water. 95% of the Vitamins are absorbed.

I have been using them for over 6 months and just ended my 2nd raft of blood tests.

Everything for me is 100% levels.

Note: I also have less restriction than many that had RNY, and can eat whatever I choose, and no problems with any types of foods, so have no issue with keeping my calories up and focused on key nutrition. (I avg 2000 cals a day, due to the levels of my workouts)

For others that have more restrictions, and eat very low calories a day, they may not be enough.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
