Does anyone take coumadin as a bloodthinner. I had mini gastric bypass in October and was diagnosed with DVT and Pulominary Embolism three months later. I am currently on a new drug called Pradaxa but the doctors want to switch me to coumadin. They seem to be worried about the mal-absorption from the mgb because taking the Pradaxa the blood is not monitored but the coumadin the blood is monitored once a week. Thanks for your input.

I was unable to take Pradaxa for the same reason. It got old having to get levels checked but I felt better knowing that I was being monitored. So glad I don't have to take it anymore!

I also take coumadin. I have no problems as long as I keep up on having my doctor check it. If all is well, I only go once a month.

My doctor put me on coumadin but it has been over 6 weeks and my calf from where the DVT is is hurting and still swollen. It hurts so much I having trouble eating. Needless to say I am in a stall. Anyone having this experience whom developed DVT and pulmonary embolism.

I have been on coumadin since 2002 due to a condition unrelated to my gastric bypass surgery. I also had pain in my calf and my hematologist put me on Cilostazol twice a day. It is a different kind of blood thinner but for some reason it works. I no longer have any calf pain. Ask your doctor about it.

Thank you for responding ! It been a scary time. By chance did the Coumadin make you hungry or gain weight ?

I've been on Coumadin since January for DVT it hasn't caused any hunger or weight gain.

I'm on coumadin as well...since 2010. It had no effects on my weight. After sleeve surgery 3/16/17, I was sent home with Lovonox injection (2 times daily) to prevent clotting. Last injection is tonight...Thank God for that!..now I can focus solely on this weight loss journey.....9 pounds down since surgery.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
