Congratulations !! Your start weight and goal weight is very similar to mines. May I ask how tall are you ? How was it your first 2 weeks out? Did you have your surgery here in the states ? Is there one thing you would have done differently ? If your bmi was on the lower side, what did you do to win the support of those around you or did you keep it a secret (like me) ?

Simply Me

I am 5'4.. my BMI was over 40.. I had the support of my doctors, fortunately it wasn't a problem. I had haters around me but I didn't let them effect my decision:) my first two weeks were good. I had a drain in at home. That was painful. Once they pulled that out I was in NO PAIN. It was hard to walk the morning I had the drain, later that day they pulled it out I walked a mile and a half home. There's a big difference after they remove that!! :)

Yes I had my surgery in the states. Mount Sinai New York.
Differently? No I don't think so. I was very prepared. I researched all the time. I started my pre op early so I wasn't scared when it was time. I wanted to know I could do it and have control. Also cut out coffee a month before to prevent headaches.. anything else you want to know please ask. ;)

The hunger we feel during the pre-surgery diet, does it feel the same after surgery? Meaning is it a struggle when you smell foods and watch others eat. I am on day 11 of full liquids pre surgery. It's been tough the last two days not to take a bite out of everything I see.

I'm 9 months out and I'm so happy also. 85 lbs down, reached my goal a couple months ago...I'm amazed how easy it has been to stay away from bad food and how easy it is to stop when I'm full.

Couple times I've eaten a bit too fast or a couple bites too much and feel so sick....that keeps me in check....I'm glad my new body doesn't let me get off track.

Awesome work! Looking great! What products are you using? What do you do for excercises? What do typical meals look like? What Protein do you use? Sorry so many Q's lol

Thank you:)
Products: none
Exercise: to lose the 50 pounds I just get moving. I have a Fitbit. As long as I was over 6500 steps I would lose the next day/) I'm starting the gym this weekend. I go on hikes and I have so much. Ore energy so I move more
Meals: normal just smaller. Still don't eat rice, Pasta or bread.. or I should say very little. Protein first chicken, fish, things like that and vegetables.. fruit.
Protein shakes: Premier Protein.< br>ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1488211536.723196.jpg hope that helps. Ask as many as you would like:)

About a month after your surgery how much were you down and what types of foods are you now eating? Are you going to the gym and if so how often?

I was sleeved on Jan. 19th and I'm down 23 pounds. I gym it up at least 3 days a week and I feel like the weight isn't moving as fast as I would like to see...It may be just me needing to practice patience.

That's exactly where I was after the first month... have patience. Trust me it will fall off. You started the gym earlier then me. Great job! I was tired a lot and walking seemed to really work for me. I stalled a bit so now I'm starting the gym. I'm very excited:) congratulations on your weight loss.. it gets better trust me!

Congratulations, you are reading my mind. I had my surgery on Jan 30, and I am down 34 lbs from my pre-op weight. I second your opinion that this is the best thing I have done for myself. I have so much more energy now.

I would say the hardest part of this experience is getting my mind and stomach on the same page.. you look at a plate of food and think you need to finish it all to be satisfied but your stomach says hell no!! It's a very strange feeling. Hard to explain unless you go through it. Even though you are full you mind thinks your not because you had two bites... it takes a little while to get used to that.

Yes siree bub. I just turned 60, and as kids were told, guilted really,, that we had to finish everything on our plate because "children were starving in Korea.", so I did.

Not only that, but I finished everyone else's plate as well.

Saving children in both north and south Korea was my goal.

I second all Elisa has said. I do have hunger after surgery, but it is amazing how little food will satisfy that hunger. It is so good and motivating to see the scale move. It really motivates me to exercise more.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
