Teacher from Georgis with UHC Insurance

Recommended Posts

Hi there! I am a teacher from Georgia and I have UHC. My BMI is 40, I have sleep Apnea, High blood preassure, asthma due to weight, knee problems, plantar fasciatis, etc, etc, all thanks to this excess weight. I have tried Phen-Phen, Meridia, Nutrisystem, 6 Weeks Body Make Over, among others. I need to know what are the steps to take if I want to have this surgery. I read some people talking about UHC. Will someone guide me, please, as what do I need to do. I do not know if my doctor will be a good help or not because he keeps saying that I need to loose weight, but he does not understand how difficult this is when you are feeling hungry all the time:hungry:. :):(:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Hi~ I have UHC. They didn't give me any problems at all as far as coverage for my lapband. Ummm...I had to have a psych eval, nutrition class, records showing atleast 6 months (may have been less) of supervised weightloss efforts and they covered me 100%. I di not have a PCP referral because I have a PPO.

Hope this helps....

How long did it take to get the approval returned from UHC? Did you have to show exercise attempts for 6months?

Hi~

It only took a few weeks to get approval from UHC. Yes, I had to submit 6 months of supervised weight loss. But you can call UHC and ask them what needs to be submitted for approval. Let me know how it goes...........

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
