best not go down this road. yes you will be able to take bigger sips but gulping your drinks is part of what got you to needing the surgery especially if it is something other than Water. also drinking fast will eventually lead to eating fast which will be a killer. this is a new life so learn to slow down and savour it.

I was able to drink quite fast withing a couple of weeks. I could drink a whole pint of Water at once. Whats the evidence which states if you are a fast drinker you will eat fast too?

Gulping down water/tea/coffee/insert drink here, didn't resut in me having to have a VSG. Eating too much did.

So will I ever be able to drink without just having to take sips? I had gastric bypass and I'm 4 weeks post op, and be wanting to drink down my drink instead I'm having to always sip.

Yes! I am just over 7 months post surgery, I can drink like normal, just give it time. I think I was able to drink normally around 2 months after

I'm glad I came across this thread! I was very worried that I would only be able to sip Water for the rest of my life...lol....when I work hard I get thirsty and tend to take big drinks of water....I'd be miserable if I could only sip when I work.

Actually, it was both. It's not just food. If it was just food, then you could immediately drink soda and whatever you want from the beginning. But it's not just about the food. There is a reason for sipping fluids, and not gulping. It's giving your stomach and digestive system time to do it's job without taking in more fluids at a time than you need to. So it's not just about the food. It was what we ate and drank that got us to be obese. And it's going to take changing the lifestyle that will help to not only lose the weight. It will help to keep it off.

I would try to stick with sipping for as much of your fluids as you can. There is a reason your surgeon wants you to sip. It helps you to know when you're full. It gives your body time to digest the fluids in the correct way.

I am 11 weeks out and I can still tell when I get full. I have been able to feel that since day three after my surgery. I didn't always like sipping but I did it because that was the post op rules. I do occasionally take bigger sips when I'm trying to get in my fluids before I go to bed and I'm tired. But I have decided to no longer do that because it actually hurts my pouch. I get in over 100 oz of fluids a day. As time goes on, you'll be able to take bigger sips until it becomes regular normal drinks. But gulping is not necessary or good in the long run for your success. Be patient with your pouch and she will thank you. [emoji4]

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
