Recommended Posts

I GOT MY BAND JULY 30,2007 AT BAPTIST HOSPITAL IN NASHVILLE. THEY WERE GREAT. DR. CHARLES MORTON DID MY BAND AND HE IS GREAT. I HAVE HAD 2 FILLS AND I WILL GET MY 3RD ONE OCT 16,2007 AND I WILL BE GLAD. I HAVE HEARD OF THE SWEET SPOTS BUT I DON'T THINK I HAVE HIT MINE YET BUT HOPEFULLY THE 3RD TIME IS A CHARM. I GUESS I AM LOSEING OK. I JUST HAVE TO GET IN MY HEAD THIS IS A LONG TERM THING. CAN SOME ONE TELL ME THE DIFFERENCE IN LOSING FAT AND LOSING POUNDS? I LOST 5.5 OF FAT LAST MONTH AND 25 POUNDS THE MONTH BEFORE THAT. IT WILL BE A MONTH THE OCT16TH 07 SINCE I HAVE BEEN TO THE DOCTOR I KNOW I HAVE LOST QUITE A BIT MORE I DON'T WEIGH BETWEEN DOCTORS VISITS. SO I HOPE I WILL BE PLEASANTLY SUPRISED. GOOD LUCK EVERY BODY. I HOPE TO FIND SOME FRIENDS ON HERE TO TALK TO I HAVE WRITTEN BEFORE BUT NO ONE EVER TALKED TO ME SO I DELETED ALL OF THEM AND I'M GOING TO TRY ONE MORE TIME. SO HOPE TO HEAR FROM EVERYONE. SHAND OR SHARON :clap2:

Hello ,

I live in Tn, 3 hours away from Nasville and am waiting on my surgery date. I would love to talk with u, especially since u have already been banded to see how things really are. Once i get banded , we could be here for each other and help each other out. Are u still hungry ? i am so afraid i will go thru all of this and still be hungry and not lose the weight. I need to lose about 140lbs. I am a chocaholic and a snacker and everyone says that i should go with the bypass because of that, but not willing to take the risks of that surgery. Look forward to hearing from u.

Nice to meet you!

I wrote this a long time ago, maybe it will help you understand the band:

. "How does a Lap-Band actually work?" This may help you in understanding the restrictive mechanism of a Lap-Band. The INAMED protocol for Lap-Band fills calls for a six-week delay after surgery, prior to any fills. The purpose for the six-week delay is for the patient’s stomach to heal from the surgery, as well as allowing time for the Lap-Band to “Seat” or “Nestle” into the fat pad between the stomach wall and the interior wall of the Lap-Band. Prior to receiving an EFFECTIVE fill, it is VERY uncommon to have any restriction from a Lap-Band. Some patients will NOT lose weight, or may even GAIN weight until they have received an effective fill in their Lap-Band. Normal weight loss with a properly restricted Lap-Band is between 1 and 2 pounds per week.

The normal cycle of fills, restriction and weight loss is as follows:

1. The patient's Lap-Band constricts when the patient receives a fill. Swelling for a few days after receiving a fill is very common. Many doctors require a patient to go on a liquid diet for a day or two after receiving a fill. A fill may have a “Delayed Action” of up to two weeks. A “Delayed-Action” means that the fill may not become effective for up to two weeks after the fill. That is why the INAMED protocol states that fills should not be performed on patients who will not have access to medical care for at least two weeks after a fill.

2. The patient's stomach capacity is lessened as a result of the restriction caused by the Lap-Band.

3. The patient loses weight because they cannot eat as much food.

4. The residual fat-pad between the inside of the Lap-Band and the outside of the patient's stomach reduces in size because of the overall weight loss in the patient.

5. The reduction of the residual fat-pad causes the Lap-Band to become loose again.

6. At that point, the patient needs another fill, because the Lap-Band is loose, and the patient has a loss of restriction, which allows the patient to eat larger amounts of food.< /span>

7. The patient receives another fill and the process starts all over again.

Most Lap-Band patients receive several fills to adjust the Lap-Band as their weight loss progresses, and there is less and less residual fat-pad between the inside of the Lap-Band and the exterior of the stomach wall. Once a patient has lost all of their residual fat-pad, fills become less common. As the Lap-Band patient progresses in their weight loss, the effect of very tiny fills (Less than .2ccs) becomes greater and greater. It is not uncommon for a late-stage Lap-Band patient to experience a significant difference in restriction with as little as .05cc of fill.

I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SOMEONE TO TALK TO ABOUT THE LAP BAND I HAVE JUST BEEN DOING IT MYSELF. WHERE DO YOU LIVE JUST 3 HOURS AWAY. THERE ARE VERY FEW TIMES I'M REALLY HUNGRY, IF I DO GET HUNGRY I DRINK A 100%WHEY Protein Drink BODY FORTRESS CHOC AT Walmart 14.00 FOR 2LBS AND THAT WILL FILL YOU UP SOME PEOPLE SAY YOU SHOULDN'T DRINK THEM I DON'T SEE WHY NOT THEY ARE GOOD FOR YOU AND HELP WITH THE PROTIEN AND I LIKE THEM. I DIDN'T DO THE BYPASS BECAUSE I DIDN'T LIKE THE IDEA OF IT. I DON'T THINK IT'S WORTH THE CHANCE. THE BAND IS A SAFE WEIGHT LOSS. IT'S SLOWER BUT IF YOU LOSE WEIGHT TO FAST YOU WILL HAVE MORE LOSE SKIN. I THINK AFTER A YEAR THEY ARE BOTH ABOUT THE SAME. I'M DISABLED I CAN'T RUN BUT I DO EXERCISE. I AM GETTING SOME GRIT BACK AFTER BEING DOWN FOR MOSTLY 5 YEARS AND YOU DON'T HAVE THAT MUCH TO LOSE COMPARED. I HAVE A LITTLE LESS THAN THAT BUT NOT MUCH AND IT'S JUST A LOW CARB AND HIGH PROTIEN. I DON'T EVEN WANT TO EAT SOMETIMES IT'S HARD FOR ME TO EAT 3 MEALS A DAY. AND YOU CAN HAVE A TREAT EVERY NOW AND THEN. WE HAVE S/F pudding, S/F Jello, I LIKE COOL WHIP ITS EMPTY NUTRITION BUT IT'S GOOD SO WHAT DOES IT HURT. CARB SMART POPSICLES. ONE MORE PLUS THE SURGERY IS A BREEZE! I JUST READ I HAVE NOBODY TO HELP I THOUGHT THE HOSPITAL HAD GROUPS AFTER SURGERY. BUT I DO NEED A FRIEND TO WORK WITH. SORRY I TALKED SO LONG BUT YOU ASK LOL. MY EMAIL IS REDRUNNER61@AOL.COM I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE MAYBE WE CAN WORK SOMETHING OUT. I NEED TO GET AWAY FROM THIS HOUSE I HOPE YOU ARE CLOSE TO MY AGE! WRITE SOON.

Hey Linda,

I finally finished my application today and am going to get it to the clinic in the next day or so. I am also a CHOCOHOLIC. My husband tells my friends I "IV chocolate. I have suffered from weight problems since 3rd grade.

I don't know about you, but I rollercoaster with emotions of the unknown about this surgery and post-op.

One of the reasons I stay in touch with the forum, is because of support and answers to questions. I hope to attend a lecture or 2 to hear more information.

Who is going to do your surgery ?

I am still researching the Protein Drinks. My step son told me today the whey Protein drinks are good, especially the chocolate ones. He knows how much I like chocolate. I think I will ask at the Support Group next week what some of them are using? I remember the old days of powered drinks for dieting and they tasted YUCKY.

Hey,

Just checking in after class tonight. Been fighting a cough and cold. Finished my application and hope to get it in the mail tomorrow or take it to the office myself. At least that process is over. Linda and I are searching for Protein "chocolate drinks." Got any ideas?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
