5 days away..... I am nervous wreck!

My surgery is 5 days away.... I'm excited and nervous at the same time, I keep look at this body that I've had a love/hate relationship with since I can remember and now I see it in a whole new way. I look at it and feel it and think "wow.... I've struggled with you for so long and now, you'll be gone"
I'm scared y'all! What will it look like after, will I struggle with the "new me" will I miss myself? I keep reading horror stories about hair loss and tragic, excess skin.... is it all worth it? My primary goal for surgery is to aliviate my chronic back pain, knee pain and other body disconforts and live a healthier, active life. But, will it be like I hope it will be? I don't know and that is one scary thoughtemoji20.png

Had all the same fears as you. While I still worry about some of the longer term things like skin and such I can tell you that being only a month out after surgery my chronic pain levels are so much better than before surgery. I've lost 30 lbs now since surgery and it has made a world of difference. My sciatica is nothing like it used to be. I could barely walk for 5 minutes without wanting to jump in front of a bus because the pain was so bad. Am I at 100%? Not at all, but I feel like I'm back to 85% at minimum. I already fell like I'm starting to get my life back. My sciatica pain has ruined my quality of life for the past couple of years limiting me on doing hundreds of things.

There are risks with this. My spleen decided to spring a leak on day #3 at the hospital, so my supposed to be 3 day stay turned into nearly a week's stay. Did it suck? Yes, yes it did. The first week was really tough and I went through all the questioning of whether I made the right decision or not.

For me I was out of options. I was looking at back surgery because nothing else had worked for my sciatica. And even then I couldn't get it done because they said it would be pointless with the weight I was carrying. So I had to look at my options and the pros outweighed the cons for doing WLS. My journey is just beginning, but despite the early bumps I'm thrilled with my progress and never thought I'd feel this good so soon after surgery. While I can't promise you'll have the same luck as me getting the extra weight off is going to be a good thing no matter what.

Good luck on your journey!

Just got home, had my surgery yesterday. Gas pain sucks and you have zero appetite or even look at food. Beef broth in the hospital made me almost vomit, but I just asked for some medication. The gas is the worst thing about it so far.

It gets better, don't worry. I suppose "hey, the first two weeks are gonna outright suck" isn't a great sales pitch from a doc's office, but I admit it was tougher than I thought it would be. It can be difficult but try to do some fun things while recovering. Whether it's a hobby, games, whatever...find something to keep your spirits up. I struggled more with the psychological battles than I did physical. Each day will get easier and easier. I'm 5 weeks out now and I can't believe how I feel now compared to just a few short weeks ago.

I'm two weeks away from my surgery date and I'm super nervous too. I've never had surgery, worry about the unlikely chance of complications, stressing about the travel, wondering what people will thinking when they see me drastically loosing weight, and wondering if I shouldn't just try again to did it on my own.

Like many of you, I am currently healthy, but at 258 lbs and a scale that only seems to move one direction, I know I won't stay healthy. I want to be there for my kids and be an active participant in their lives for a long time!

I havent had any psychological regrets as of yet and know I most likely will not. I know I will be able to eat the decent foods I loved to eat before, just not yet. The thing that held me back was not being able to over indulge like I'm used to . Once I said to myself I was being absolutely ridiculous and need way less food in my life than I was used to indulging on it was an easy decision to make. My surgeon was great the hospital was great with the exception of the messed up wheel on my IV stand that made it sound like a horror movie as I walked the halls at 3am, things went smooth. The worst point is the first 10 minutes after waking up..It does get better hour by hour literally.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
