rbeamon 3 Posted February 24, 2017 I am in Chicago and just got my psych appointment...they said it's 2.5 hours and I have to fill out a questionnaire beforehand. Can anyone shed light on what to expect during this? 2.5 hours seem like a long time. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
HB76356 122 Posted February 24, 2017 Im in Chicago also. I'm sure each psych is different but the questionnaire for me was basic personality tests, like the Michigan Multiphasic. The session itself was pretty standard. They ask about your history, what you know about the procedure, etc. It seems like the goal is to see where you're at and if you're mentally stable enough to work through everything the surgery presents. AstroGuy 54 Posted February 27, 2017 For my evaluation she was trying to determine if I understood the implications of the surgery. Things like permanence, forced change in volume, consequence of not following plan. She also wanted to understand motivation. If I was doing it to lose weight to just look better or if I was motivated by health concerns or mobility. We spend alot of time on support system and if I was committed. I had to have two, one hour sessions. I will probably go back for further appointments however. The test was to give her insight to my personality. Mine was 165 questions long! achappex3 346 Posted February 27, 2017 My psych appointment was nowhere near 2.5 hours long... or I didn't realize it. I had to feel out a question bubble sheet which was super long. A lot of it had to deal with mental illnesses, etc. After that I just talked to the psychologists about what I will do differently after surgery. Etc. Joann454 1,329 Posted February 27, 2017 Mine was long because I had to fill out a 500 question survey. Afterwards he analyzed it. He said I was a risk taker and a non conformist. I was freaked out he would say I was unstable or something but he just said it wasn't a bad thing. But yeah, it was long. I like my shrink! He's a kind man. I hope you like yours too.
