My surgery date is 10-15-07.

My DH and I have had a reunion we have planned to attend on the 19th out of town.

He wanted to bring the Harley along and wondered if I could ride while we were down in San Diego. Thats 4/5 days after surgery. It would be just around town but what do you all think. What are you feeling like 5 days out of surgery? Still really tender?

I appreciate your feedback.

Valerie

From my own experience, I would not have been up for a motorcycle ride that soon after surgery, but everyone is different. I hope you're able to - it sounds like fun!

I did a short ride 3 weeks after surgery, but it was on a sport bike. Then I parked it and am waiting for a while. Not real comfortable for me. Maybe on a cruiser though

I don't think I would be ready to ride the bike that soon at all! I think it would hurt over the bumps and would not help if you were nausiated at all...I would say no for me, but I am a BIG baby! lol...

I wasn't up for much of anything 4/5 days after my surgery. I was still getting nauseated at that point and a little sore. Everyone is different so i hope you are able to.

The port is achored in place and needs time to heal. I would be really careful. My former wife's port slipped out of place and i think is was because of riding with me on my harley shortly after her procedure. I cannot pin point that is the reason for the port slipage. I just know that she was very active and did not leave time for the port stiches to heal and scar tissue to form to hold it into place. We wound up replacing the port 2 months after frustration on not being able to get fills.

Not trying to stop you but just cautioning :)

Thanks everyone! I'm not riding on the motorcycle. It seems dumb considering the money we've put out for this. DH wanted to show off his bike to his navy buddies (this is a reunion for their ship) but he would never do anything to cause me harm. It was his suggestion that I post this issue and you have all confirmed what I knew in my heart. He can't find a place to park the bike anyway. The hotel does not offer secured parking. Thanks again!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
