Losing Weight Pre-Op

Recommended Posts

Ok so I still have until June until my surgery, but my surgeon wants me to lose 10-15 lbs beforehand. I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but I want to make sure I do this right so that I can get the surgery. Any tips?

My requirement was to do a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery. I had to use Opitfast 500. I lost 12lbs. It's expensive but really works. The least expensive place to buy was EBay. You can do it! You can lose 15lbs in 3 months!!! The more you lose helps you after surgery. Plus gets you mentally prepared for your new beginning in your life.

Its not easy after surgery. In my case the first 2 months were very difficult. I had a hard time getting in all my Protein & liquids. Now I feel great & finally feel human. I've lost 42lbs & go to the gym 3 times a week & PT 2 x week.

YOU CAN DO IT & YOU'LL REAP THE REWARDS!!!!

My personal doctor prescribed Adipex to me to help me in my weight loss prior to surgery. I lost 50lbs in 4 months using it. I will say that you must also choose healthy foods, but the Adipex will suppress hunger and boost your metabolism.

I had to lose 10% before I was approved for surgery. I cut back to 1200 cals and "ate like I had surgery." Meaning I ate Protein first, chew a lot, started working out, cut back on carbs, completely cut out soda caffine junk food alcohol, etc. My cravings are gone and I am used to eating this way so I feel like transitioning after surgery will be so much easier. I have lost 40lbs and I'm still 2-3months out before I get surgery and still losing. Going to be well below the weight needed for surgery but I feel super prepared.

That's the plan. I thought about indulging when I got to the weight I needed and decided against it. I don't want to regain so I want to commit to the process.

Sorry for the late reply, I had my surgery on Feb 28th. Just got to checking my email. As far as what Adipex is, I'll paste a description from drugs.com...

Adipex-P (phentermine) is a stimulant similar to an amphetamine. Phentermine is an appetite suppressant that affects the central nervous system.

Adipex-P is used together with diet and exercise to treat obesity (overweight) in people with risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes.

So, yes, I believe it is a sort of diet pill. It helped me meet my weight loss goal to qualify for surgery. I hope this helps :)

I did the same thing to lose my weight and it worked like a charm I just stopped taking before I had my labs done .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
