What is everyone taking for soreness? I'm pretty sure my doc said ibuprofen and nsaids like Aleve and Advil are out. Ibuprofen was my drug of choice, lol. I'm not sure Tylenol is going to cut it?

Also do any of you take pre and post workout drinks? I'm thinking with my lower intake of calories and food in general I might need it. I know I lost some muscle, but man I felt weak as hell my first day back. I won't embarrass myself with numbers.

I'm hoping to get back to the gym in the next week. It's been way longer for me since I've been in the gym due to health problems, but looking forward to getting back into it.

NSAIDS are definitely a no-go anymore. There's way to much risk in getting an ulcer post-op. It sucks because I loved my ibuprofen as well. Tylenol will hopefully help a little. Stretching and hot showers used to help me get through it. DOMS is a b!tch...lol

I plan to ease back into the gym after... no pain meds required ;) yes, won't be winning any toughman awards, but think I'll survive ;)

NSAIDS offer too much risk in getting an ulcer post-op so its best to avoid them if you can. Tylenol is the go to for pain meds or the knock off brand for Tylenol. Also if you can steam like in a sauna or soak in a whirlpool post weightlifting I have found that to help with soreness after lifting heaving on weight lifting days. Try not to over do it, and remember Rome wasn't built in a day. So take your time slow and steady and you will get there.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll try some stretching and stick with the Tylenol. I don't have access to a steam room or sauna, but a hot shower might do me some good.

Anybody using preworkout or post-workout (for recovery)?

Could use some bio freeze, or ben gay type ointment/roll on to help with pain not relieved by tylenol

Stretching is going to be key. Before and after the workout, spend at least 10 minutes stretching. When you workout, remember it is to just about fatigue, don't over do it. Light weight, slow easy and multiple repetitions. Focus on breathing and form while you do it.

I'm the exact same way with muscle loss. I used to lift off and on, and I've never been this weak.

The number 1 thing to deal with the soreness is to keep working out. Once you get used to it, the DOMS will only be bad when you increase intensity.

My first week back, I hurt all over. After that, only bothers after a major workout, and it's never as bad as it was at first.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
