Does anyone worry that they still won't lose ?

Recommended Posts

obvioiusly diets have not worked for me . In the past , the only thing that did work was Very low Cal HCG which was about 600 cal a day until even that didn't work . A week on the pre op diet and I've lost nothing ! I'm not worried about following the rules because I have lots of willpower but what if I get sleeved and still do t lose ? Is that possible ?

I'm curious how consuming 600 calories per day didn't work.

I'm also curious how someone who has lots of willpower isn't able to lose weight. I'm not judging; I'm just curious.

No , the HCG which was 600 ca was the only thing l a did work until I couldn't maintain it and ultimately gained what I had lost plus some . Did it inumerous times in past five years until the last time about a year ago and loss was so slow that it was frustrating and led me here as I knew I couldn't do this roller coaster any more . My preop diet is isn't liquid only . It's 2 shakes. A Protein Bar and meal consisting of four oz Protein and veggies . I completed day 7 and have not lost a thing and it's only about 1000 calories .

The yo-yo dieting has really done a number on your metabolism.

The surgery should still work, but you should expect to be an extra-slow loser. A good, experienced NUT will help you figure out your best course.

Good luck!

Lots of people with willpower can't lose weight ! That's why we look toward surgery . If I could do it with diet and exercise I would but its apparently not possible for me . I have dedicated the last ten years to trying .

I was worried about that also. I asked the NP at the surgeons office and she said it is really not possible to NOT lose any weight. I met with the surgeon yesterday, she said that you need to exercise or you are much less likely to be successful.

I hear ya! As someone else said, doing the 600 cal diet multiple times for sure ruined your metabolic rate, hence why it quit working for you. I've had similar issues and also worry that I'm going to be the one person who this doesn't work for. I hit my first stall after only two weeks post surgery and it lasted for FIVE WEEKS! That being said, it does work. The stall ended, and suddenly over night I lost four pounds. I can't remember the science behind it, but my surgeon said the first several months are a reset for your metabolic rate. And the reason previous diets failed has to do with primitive drive, not will power. You can have incredible will power, but your body is biologically driven to get back to its highest weight. It's s battle you are bound to lose. The whole biological make-up of your body will work against you.

Thanks so much for explaining this so that it makes sense ! I can't wait !

Get your thyroid checked. Make sure you get a reverse t3 as well. I wouldn't be able to lose weight with the sleeve if I didn't take a natural thyroid supplement, for sure.

What is a reverse T3? They did a whole work up when i started the process so I'm assuming they did a thyroid test but i 'll ask. Thanks!

I'm so glad to hear you say this. I thought it was just me. I lost 15 lbs. when I went to my 1 week post-op visit. I have my 6-week visit next week, and I've only lost 2 lbs. I know it's not all about the weight, but I expected to lose more in a 5-6 week period. I just keep trying.

Talk about stirring the pot! That really does sound judgemental. If you are here because you are going to have or have had weight loss surgery then you really ought to know that weight loss isn't just about willpower or even about calories in/calories out.

As you must know, people undergoing wls have tried typical diets and even medical ones. I'm really surprised that you would be so recklessly and thoughtlessly "curious".

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
