I hate the way it feels to eat

Recommended Posts

I need some advice guys. I am 4 weeks post-op tomorrow. I had surgery done in Tijuana so I have very little guidance post-op. I should be in pureed/mushy food stage but the thing is, I HATE the way it feels to eat. I do get some hunger, it's just the way the food feel as it goes down it feels uncomfortable, gurgley, gassy . I have tried eggs, refried Beans, tilapia, cream Soups, and yogurt. Most days I only eat for one meal and so I'm still depending on Protein Shakes for most of my meals. My question is, Is this ok? should I try to eat more often?

Yes! It went away for me. It seemed to happen overnight. I am 9 weeks post op GB. I am officially in the regular diet stage. Salmon is the only thing that i have tried so far that still gives me a problem. I will try again in a few weeks. Hang in there! It gets better and when it does, its amazing!

I'm 3 weeks out and also had surgery in Tijuana. Eating is hard. I don't feel great and it can cause pains in my chest. Eat as slowly as possible! I only get in 1/4 cup maybe. Probably more like 1/8. I'm still relying on shakes and broth. I think it's okay short term. Takes time to heal and you don't want to force anything. Make sure you are getting some Vitamins in the meantime. I was taking some greens (gross green powder mixed with juice or Water for added vitamins, but I'm nauseated at the moment so can't stomach it). I tried eggs too. Epic fail. Soups are ok. I had tuna and miracle whip too which went down ok but I didn't feel great after but I'm not sure the two are related though.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
