Crys0103 6 Posted February 22, 2017 Does anyone else wake up at night or in the mornings with extremely dry mouth? Mine is terrible and so of course I want to drink a lot of Water and then I cause my stomach to hurt. This only started since I had surgery.
orionburn 1,024 Posted February 22, 2017 I has a VSG but yes, I get terrible dry mouth as well since surgery (now 4 weeks out). I don't know if it's related to the surgery or if I'm sleeping with my mouth open. I was never a back sleeper before surgery but have now become used to it, but I know I'm more prone to breathe through my mouth while on my back. I had some days last week where I had to resist that urge to chug because I was so thirsty.

Crys0103 6 Posted February 25, 2017 I called my doctor Thursday and they seem to think I am dehydrated, they told me to increase my Water intake but it's so hard and so I honestly don't know what to do. 64oz is 4 of my water bottles and I have only been getting in 2 or 3 bottles a day. Julie norton 2,850 Posted February 25, 2017 I believe this is a common issue. I know water/ s/f Gatorade. Or even a small amount of pedialyte mixed with Water and ice... if tolerated... can give me some relief. Biotene lozenges and such can help me sometimes. My young feels like a dry parrot mouth!!! TracieSue 36 Posted February 25, 2017 You have got to try hard to get your 64 ozs of Water in or you will get dehydrated!! My eyes and face start to get really dry and itchy if I don't drink enough water. I am almost 3 months out and I can easily drink all of my water now. Most of the struggle is establishing brand new habits, but once I did everything got much easier!Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App 1 FAT2LESS reacted to this

rusnj 16 Posted February 26, 2017 Try drinking coconut Water first thing in the morning.....that is what my Dr told me to do to counter the early morning feeling of dehydration and the feeling of nausea. Coconut water has helped me

Are there other things you can have besides plain water that can help you get it down? I can have broth, herbal tea, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello, Protein Shakes, crystal light and other no calorie flavored waters... All of these count toward my water numbers. Heath55 17 Posted March 5, 2017 Not to replace hydration but Biotene is amazing for dry mouth. I had a med that was THEE worst and it was a lifesaver. They have a mouthwash and lozenges so it'll help with the SYMPTOMS but not the cause. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
