Keri1019 61 Posted February 21, 2017 I went to have my bypass and they found a mass in my transverse colon. I have traveled hundreds of miles and now have to get this taken care of then come back to have bypass. Has anyone had an issue like this? I am scared and they gave me little to no information on what to do. Any information welcomed. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
summerset 5,265 Posted February 22, 2017 Your GP will now be the person you should go to. He or she will tell you what to do next. What did they say about this "mass in the transverse colon"? Was a CAT scan done? A colonoscopy?
Keri1019 61 Posted February 22, 2017 No cat scan or colonoscopy were done. I now have to travel home and get a hold of my primary care doc and see where I go from here. The documents say they fixed the hiatal hernia and were getting prepared to connect the bypass and a large mass was found in transverse colon. So they then sent me to recovery. Keri1019 61 Posted February 25, 2017 Please anyone please share. I if it could be cancer would rather know than not. How do the remove it ??Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Vinasu 621 Posted February 25, 2017 It's not necessarily cancer, and if it is, colon cancer has very high survival rates- -greater than 90% at five years. No one can tell you what will happen (other than it'll almost certainly be surgically removed) because there are many things it could be. Wait for a diagnosis. It's good you're finding it now before you have symptoms. It's scary, but try to stay calm until you get a diagnosis. When my grandfather had colon cancer, the doctor told us that nearly all of his patients die of something else, years or decades after discovery. My grandfather died of COPD, completely unrelated and years later. 1 jkmen5 reacted to this

Mickie0130 61 Posted March 1, 2017 Keri...I know this is hard but try and take it as a blessing they found it before things got worse for you. I'm a cardiac nurse and many of my patients I receive are ones who were having a workup for another type of surgery and discovered they had a serious cardiac issue that they had no clue they had. Basically allowing us to save their life. I know how disappointing it must be you weren't able to get your surgery but honestly this too could have saved your life. I will be praying for you. I hope you'll stay in touch and let us know how you're doing. [emoji847] 2 ColleenErin1974 and MarinaGirl reacted to this
Keri1019 61 Posted March 2, 2017 I also am a cardiac nurse. I understand but it's so different when you are the patient. I am a Christian so have turned this over to God. Of course I still worry but there is nothing I can do. I get home to MT on Saturday and will take it one day at a time. Will be calling my primary care Monday to see where we go from here. Thanks and God Bless. I included the images they gave me.
SummerShadow 27 Posted March 5, 2017 Praying for you Keri. Think positive and, as you have already done, allow God to handle it. Please keep us updated. 1 Keri1019 reacted to this

naturallyzee 292 Posted March 12, 2017 Hi. I started this process September 2016. I had a colonoscopy done in October 2016 and a 7cm mass was found. I had a right hemicolectomy on November 16 where they removed a foot of my colon including the secum and appendix. Thank God the mass was benign. The surgeon initially said I may have to get sleeved because of the surgery. Well I had gastric bypass on March 8th. So there is hope. I will be praying for you. 3 Syaniya, MarinaGirl and chryss reacted to this
