I got approval today!

Recommended Posts

I'm so happy! I got a call for approval for my band to sleeve revision. I couldn't be happier! Surgery is March 6th.

Now comes the part I really don't want to deal with, my parents. I have not told them I was trying to get the sleeve for the last 6 months. I had found out a couple years ago that my mom had told other relatives that I had the band when I had asked her not to. I don't want her telling people again.

But otherwise I can't wait!

Congratulations!

As for your mom, could you just tell her you're having surgery because the band slipped and leave out other details? It's an honest reply just maybe not all the details.

I'm doing a revision as well and haven't told but a couple people and others just that my band slipped (true) and I have to have surgery.

This time around, I don't feel it needs to be everyone's business for me.

Happy thoughts and well wishes!

My last appointment was on February 3rd (I don't think they submitted until at least the 7th). I called up on February 21st looking to find out what was going on and they said they were still waiting for to hear from the insurance company. I called my insurance and left a message for the nurse there, and oddly I got a call later that day staying I was approved. So maybe 2 weeks from when they submitted til I heard.

As for the requirements, I unfortunately had to meet the same requirements as with the band. 6 months weigh ins, Pulmonary, Cardiologist, therapist, Endoscopy, nutrition. It sucked waiting. But I was determined. Now that I've heard back yes, I am starting to get a little worried. But I know it is going to be for the best, and I'm hoping I won't have any complications and I'm one who can lead a fairly normal life with just eating less

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
