gallbladder pain post LB - actigall

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery aug 1 on sept 10 i had my port removed due to infection and now 6 weeks out im still losing im down 43 lbs and now im having gallbladder pain.

I have had bloodwork and ultrasound done ....bloodwork shows a inflamation and everything else normal with normal liver fuction.

Ultrasound showed "NO" stones but some enlargement of the ducts.

Prior to my surgery i was not placed on actigall

I now have a perscription for it .... has anyone else done this? and been able to avoid having their gallbladder removed?

wow - I haven't been on line since June came on today to see if I could find anything out about gallbladder issues and you sound just like me - last saturday about 3:00 am woke up with severe pain ultrasound showed inflammmation of gallbladder and sludge, no stones. Tranported to the hospital where I had my band that night no more pain spent all day Saturday and Sunday and 1/2 of Monday in hospital no pain meds feeling good -- I am so proud of myself I fended off 3 residents and the surgeon on call who were ever so eager to remove the gallbladder (like it was absolutely so inconsequential) Anyhow, started researching -- and have come to learn that losing a significant amount of weight and rapidly to boot puts enormous strain on your liver having to process all the cholesteral (no one told me before and I guess I never really thought about it). Now, two days out of the hospital and having met yesterday with my primary doc. -- he ordered a HITA scan, at my insistance really, that I believe will show me the functionality of the organ (is it impaired functioning or not) don't be surprised if you ask for one and the doctor says you don't really need it cause as far as they are concerned the ultrsound already showed the inflammation -- but I was insiting that I wanted to know about the functioning of the organ before any surgery and I will go back and have my blood tested in about a week or so when I finish the antibiotics. My band surgeon who I finally got to met with last night (who was out of the hospital over the weekend) agreed to put me on Actigal for the next 40-50 pounds I plan to lose. I heard it possibly aids in the prevention of gallstones during weight loss. My goal today is to do a bit more research about actigal becuase I really don't know of the side effects etc., etc., the only real concern he has is if I start experincing nausea and/or vomitting which won't be good.

I am simply doing any and everthing I can to fend off having to have my gallbladder surgerically removed and be safe in losing the weight (everyone says its no big deal but I personally just don't buy it)

Did you lose 43 lbs since having the band placed?? I'm no doctor but that sounds like an incredible amount of weight too quickly -- are you restriciting your caloric intake too much??? Are you going to take the actigall??? what did your doctor say about it?? let me know -- be well

My weight loss has been since the band only 6 weeks ago, aand thats what i said to the dr. my GB is stressed out! im still having pain after i eat and im taking pain meds to deal with it .

Im not going to give up the GB .Beside they arent willing to take me back in right now because 1) I still have a open incision from my port removal and 2) i think they want to wait till my surgery returns form vacation before making any decisions...i told him the only operson make this decision is ME.

I asked for the actigall because i heard about it from everyone else in my support group they all take it..... why now me?

as far as i have heard the side effects arent to bad

Fingers crossed!

let me know how things go!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
