1 Yr Bandiversary - Thanks for all your help

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My one year band anniversay is tomorrow and I wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for such an informative and helpful site. I'm down 60 lbs from my highest weight and would like to lose another 20 or so.

The lapband has changed my life and you guys have helped me immensely in learning how to live successfully with my band. I had no problems losing the weight (over and over and over) I just couldn't keep it off.

I've gone from sitting on the couch to training for an adventure race (it's next weekend and is 15 miles of mountain biking and about 4 miles of trail running) and I've been asked to be in an infomercial for my surgeon about the health benefits of the band...bottom line; at 46 years old I'm healthier than I've been in years and it's due in large part to Lapbandtalk.

..you guys rock!! :clap2:

Hi all,

I don't post much anymore....I feel a bit out-of-place since I didn't have as much to lose as most, but the lapband has changed my life and you guys have helped me immensely in learning how to live successfully with my band. I had no problems losing the weight (over and over and over) I just couldn't keep it off.

Joanie, I do crave sweets but it's my own fault. I went into this thinking "I'll never have to diet again, this will be a lifestyle"....reality is that sweets and junk slide right down, so I continue to struggle with my love of chocolate. The difference after the band is that I feel I have my weight under control.

I was a volume eater, so in addition to the sweets I would eat fast food junk and lots of it. I now can't stand french fries, or anything else that's fried. The taste from chewing to liquid is gross when there is grease all over the food....(my opinion of course) :-)

Tracy,

I have finally found a truly horrid before picture. It took a while to find since I shied away from cameras...so I'll post before and during pics soon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
