Sleeved 1/11. Down 20 pounds and feeling great. But today I cheated and I feel terrible. I had three bites of pizza. I did good all day meeting my Protein quantity. I'm so mad I wasn't even hungry but the pizza looks so good. I'm trying to put this behind me and just looking forward to tomorrow. Thanks for listening

Don't look at it as cheating! You had three bites. What would you have had prior to the surgery? This somewhat goes against a lot of what I see posted here, but I think the mentality of 'cheating' or what you can and can't have is what sets people up for failure - one cheat or bad day tailspins into inevitable more setbacks. My doctors office doesn't have my meal plan set up like this at all. In fact, they've said I can eat anything I want, but to eat Protein first, then veggies, then carbs. My surgeon said as long as I follow this plan, I will lose. And because of this, I haven't felt deprived (though I've also had zero cravings for old favorites) nor have I felt like I've cheated. I have had pizza and other foods, some of which was on my plan very early on, much to the surprise of many, like mashed potatoes, but I don't eat nearly the amount I once did. And through this I've found foods that once tasted amazing to me now don't. I'll have a bite or two and wonder what the appeal was.

3 bites of pizza is not cheating and I am sure others will disagree with me but let's talk reality. If you think of foods as bad or cheating then I feel you will eventually slip worse then 3 bites. You met your Protein goal and it sounds like you made mostly good choices today. You will have days where you have those three bites of pizza or a piece of cookie or a bite of cake and you know what? that is ok as long as it stops at three bites and as long as you don't have a whole day or whole week of poor choices. Focus on what you did right today

My take on this:
Just get up , dust yourself off and start again. That is why I choose surgery.... to have a different behavior pattern
Keep going!! There is a group here supporting you.
You have to do the work though.
Your successful future May not include pizza.....Or soda ...
Except as a VERY occasional item . If we want to change our bodies ,
We have to do something different.
Really hoping for your great future.

Shoooootttt I had 3 FULL SLICES of pizza a few days ago! AND WINGS! You didn't cheat! You saw what you wanted, and went for it. I was in the exact same boat. Just start anew! You got this!

Are you allowed solid food at this point of your post-op diet? If so, then you didn't cheat. You made a choice. Personally I eat pizza now and again. I usually have 1/3 of the crust (the bottom, soggier part) and most of the cheesy topping bit. Prior to surgery I would have had two huge slices, maybe three. I didn't go through this to never have pizza again, especially since pizza is my favorite food! I track it and make concessions in other areas the rest of the day. This is a tool and life change, not torture :)

I swear you could have written this about me! I feel the same way you do, and my Dr.'s say the same thing. No guilt....its just like everything else! And isn't it funny the things we think we are dying for, then have 1 teeny bite and then are all...."meh' about it. Love it!

I personally think 3 bites of pizza is fine if it keeps you sane and on track. I had surgery about 4 weeks ago and for a week I was going insane thinking about pizza and my favorite foods. I even dreamed about nachos. So the other night I went out to eat with my boyfriend and had some tortilla chips and I felt super guilty. But the chips also helped cure my cravings and since then I haven't been obsessing over treats/cheats. For me I want to lose weight but also be a normal person and learn how to eat certain things in moderation and move on.
On the other hand if you have severe food addiction it might mean you need to avoid certain foods all together.

I do find it strange but wonderful how things that used to taste so good now are meh! And for me it's the things I really shouldn't have anyway. I had a bite of a little Debbie, what once was my weakness and I couldn't stop at just one, and I didn't like it at all! It tasted so bland and processed to me - totally gross. I didn't want more after that bite, and ended up giving the rest to my more than willing sister.

In my opinion as long as you have went through the post op steps and feel okay then consider it retraining yourself to eat. Personally I don't have any plans on not eating a few bites of pizza when say we Celebrate with our boys basketball team for winding the 5th grade championship. Yay!

I literally had 4 tiny dime sized pieces and chewed till it was almost liquid and slipped down my throat. It completely was filling and full filled my pizza craving. Didn't go over calories for the day and don't feel guilty a bit. It's my way of making this new life work for me but yet remain in Control thankfully! . Good luck [emoji256]

I'm about 9 weeks post op and cleared for a regular diet. I had 1 slice, minus the crust, of super thin crust homemade pizza on Saturday night. I don't view it as cheating, I chose this surgery so I wouldn't have to never eat things again. My Protein was met, my carbs are low so I figured why not! It set well, tasted great and I'm glad I did it.

Good for you sullie! The surgery was not meant to change what we eat, but rather to control how much. My surgical group has continually stressed that it is ok to eat "regular" food and not think I am cheating. I am living, just with a new perspective and mindset to control how much and how often.

I am still only a few weeks from surgery, so have been looking for new "spins" on some of my favorite foods. Looking and finding so many healthy options, (making bbq ribs for dinner tonight actually! sugar free BBQ Sauce and only 25 calories) but know from time to time, could have an indulgence.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
